Depending on ZUN's mood, Sanae and he Moriya shrine could take the human side. Sanae does support the idea of humans being oppressed by youkai. That would be more of a "radial human" perspective. I'm not sure who would take a "neutral human" ("leave us alone") perspective; betting on Reimu then Keine.

It's solely the reason why I really respect fanartists who stick to the original design while using their own style to make it more beautiful/like an advanced version of the original design, like my favorite artist, Cosmic, with his Reimu. What is your take regarding artists who gets derailed too far from the original design? I'm well-aware of open-interpretation, but there is always a border that people better not breach. Feel free to use Imizu's Udonge as the example since she is like a lost elf from a civilization older than the age of my grandma multiplied by 100.

That Elf-aban is just terrible. Did the artist forget she is a rabbit? When an artist makes something that far from the original, they may as well make it an original image instead of trying to force a Touhou face on it. Generally a character should retain characteristic features, Inaban's bunny ears and gun association or Ukuu's arm cannon for example. Like you, the better artists in my opinion, put their own tastes into an image that could be used in canon.

The fact that there are very few non toddler/loli Scarlet sisters doujin still bothers me. More so with Remi than Flan.

Remi won't like it if you touch those.

It's most appropriate to refer to that as the proper execution of open-interpretation. Don't know what kind of evil spirit did possess Imizu, but he also did draw normal-looking Udonge back then, which looks much better in my opinion. While it's true that artists who're capable in upgrading the original designs are worth the respect, there are still other artists who're capable in not just upgrading, but also succeed in giving a fresh different feel to the characters. One of many good examples is Morino Hon's make up for Patchu. Again, what's your take regarding that ?



Non toddlers and Scarlet sisters? That's just like looking at Reimu without ribbon. What kind of donjon do you expect then ?
