Voices of Eden - Voice Acting

Hey diddle-diddle, hey cats, here's a tiddle-

I've just spoke with Missus Tracy, the creator of the hippest comic this side of the Big Muddy, Lackadaisy.

With anthropomorphic felines constituting the cast, these swingin' cats are all a ruckus during the riotous times of the Prohibition era, where the guns blazed hot and the music played cool.

Now, as this an ongoing comic (the first volume started shipping last year)- the cast is wide and varied; from motor-mouthed Yanks, surly Slovaks, and spicy Cajuns- and the number of players on the field keeps growing and flowing.

Now- to keep things manageable, I slated the launch of this project for only about a dozen pages; but- depending on how ambitious we're feeling- we can push forward and do more (the comic doesn't follow a nice 'n clipped chapter format, so we have to take our own cues).

So for that segment, the roles are doled out thusly (in order of appearance):

Narrator- Up fer grabs.
Rocky- PumpJack
Captain Kehoe- SamRav
Avril/Avery (Scruffy Redneck) - Jack
Emery (Dopeface Redneck) - Mel
Paisley (Strawhat Redneck) - Sam
Ivy- Nekohime
Mitzi- Circe
Viktor- Melfice

These are of course, subject to change (to be batted out during Cold Reads and our family get togethers and whatnot)- but that should be a good starting point.

I left the Narrator position open, mostly because the guys do outnumber the girls for the most part, so if any of the ladies would like to give it a shot- why not.

I'm really excited that the creator was ok with this. Now I want to do an amazing job to do an honor for her work.

I'd also take the narrator role if Neko has to fill in for Persephone. If not, then Neko should probably take it. I'm assuming she'll be Serafine later on...?

She's my fav character, lol. But I can do whoever--I mean, it's cats. Lemme at 'em.

Haven't really thought that far ahead yet, truth told- but Neko- you'll be taking over as Ivy, since Persephone needs to vanquish her computer ails, which may prove to be a bloody battle indeed.

I'd offer to help out in the sound department, since I've had a whole armartoire of sound effects, and an appallingly huge collection of Jazz/Swing- but that has all been lost.

[font=verdana][color=green]Indeed; I think that they are all very good. So, we'll need to decide which one to use for the future projects now. Obviously all_voices or all_voices2, but with Neko wanting to do changes, we can hold out on deciding until she is more happy with her sound logos.

To me, the all voices versions sound muddy. 'Twas a bit difficult to get the voices together just so, and even with my editing I think it's still a bit out of synch...idk, I've been listening to them n-billion times, so I'm not exactly the most objective critic right now. I'll reassess in a couple of days so I have fresh ears.

I was thinking, for each project, whoever does the main character/s can do the "Voices of Eden" in character. Kind of like how the film studios do a little something different to their logos depending on the movie.

Hmm, I was also wondering if you could try a different style. You know that the style goes something like this: "Voices, Voices, Voices, Voices, Voices of Eden (with Voices over this), Voices of Eden (with Voices over this) and then ending with a clear Voices of Eden". Would it be possible to try: "Voices, Voices, Voices, Voices, of Eden, of Eden, of Eden, of Eden, Voices of Eden (with of Eden over this) and then the clear Voices of Eden"?

I hope that I described that right.

Oh I see. Now that you have suggested that, then I suppose that that is a better idea. But, if in the case that there are two main characters, would you simply make another one with those two as the ending? If it wasn't too much trouble for you, that is.

I think the main character bit is a good idear, and if there's more than one, we can either-

A) Alternate between them as we produce more projects of the same series, or

B) In unison with the main characters.


Anyways- cool beans, Neko. They sound pretty good to me- but I will agree that the "All voices" does sound a bit muddy. Fixing that would be rather difficult, as it would require everyone to do so in time with the rest- that- and ideally, everyone would be doing their recordings in a soundproof room, to get rid of as much background, feedback, and white noise as possible, so it they wouldn't compound each other when compiled together.

Not impossible, but difficult.

Oh, and whenabouts were you planning to set the Lackadaisy deadline, Sam? (If I understand correctly, you'll be editing this one).

[font=verdana][color=green]Hmm...I've yet to decide that. I'll have a thorough look through the first twelve pages of Lackadaisy (I've read it, but purely on a enjoyment level) and see just how many lines each one of us have.

I'm still not too sure whether to split the twelves pages in two; the first half being the narration about the whole area and the second half started off from Rocky's first appearance. Or, I'm even toying with ending the first project right after Rocky escapes and then continuing on from there. Or would you rather have all twelve pages all at once?

1) Voices themselves--it sounds muddy and out of synch because everyone says "Voices of Eden" differently. I did try to get the ones that would line up the most, but I'm just not satisfied with it. That's just me, though.

2) Yep, I got that, lol. I can try it that way, but I'm afraid it will make the logo a bit too long. I was trying to keep it under 10sec (and I was so close, too!)

3) It's no trouble to make a new one--that's why I have the Blank sound logo so people can dub over it.

Well, I shot for twelve for a multitude of reasons.

1- Only the narration seems kinda boring.

2- It gives most of us at least a tiny bit to play (the girls only show up near the end).

3- I think it ends rather nicely there, since the next page switches over to Sedgewick and his secretary.

[font=verdana][color=green]@Neko To get around the muddiness problem, due to people saying "Voices of Eden" at different paces, styles etc, why don't we ask everyone to say the words in accordance to your speed? Only the "neutral" voices are used for the final section, so it won't be too hard for them to say the words at the same pace as you wish.

Also, to cut down the time to see how the idea I posed works, take out a couple of "Voices" at the beginning and one of the "Voices of Eden"s at the end. I just want to see how the idea will sound.

@Pump I see; that's fair enough. Seeing as you think 12 will be best, I'll keep it to 12 pager...although each page requires a lot more work than the other one I did, so will take a lot longer to complete. Don't expect miracles with this one; the only reason the other one got released so quickly was because of the fact that I made it my business to complete it that quickly, to have a joint release with Circe. For future projects...it'll be a lot longer, especially after I go back to Uni.

Hmm..the deadline...how about...the 10th. I want to have a tighter schedule than Circe has, so a week after her will be suitable. I'll make that known to everyone else, if they don't read it here that is, soon. Also, being a left-to-right comic rather than a right-to-left manga that doesn't go up and down, it'll be easy for everyone to know what lines comes where, so I won't need to edit the pictures like I did before.

Oddly enough, I'm more used to reading right-to-left for manga than comics. The first comic I read was Dragon Ball in Japanese, after all. But it's pretty clear who's speaking anyway.

I'll try those suggestions, Sammy--I'll just pick out one "neutral" reading that sounds best to me and I'll let everyone know to copy the pacing and intonation.

The first few times we were flipping through Lackadaisy, my brain automatically kept trying to read right to left, lol.

Neko, the sound logos are amazing. In order to fix your muddiness problem though, if you recorded one then everyone could record one of themselves matching your length, maybe it would help? They probably won't ever be a perfect match, but they'll at least sound much more similar.

By the way, why does everyone have a personal logo, and then there's the "sexy circe" one as well ~///~;;
