FAKKU Old Guard
Back when FAKKU first opened, I was a pretty avid forum user. That's what got me here today. It was a small community back then, as compared to the thousands of forum users we have now. I like to think that I contributed a lot to what the forums were then, which somewhat lead to what they are now.
When I think back to those few years ago I think about the tiny community we had, sharing our porn and getting our jollies off. As time went by and I got more duties on the site, my forum usage dropped off. Then things started to pick up IRL and I couldn't make much time for the forums anymore. And that's where I'm at, still. I feel like I've lost touch with the community that I helped build because I haven't had the ability to be around enough. I see that other people, the veterans of this site, have been able to keep up with all the stuff that goes on here and it makes me happy that other people have had the time to do what I haven't. They're more in touch with all of you people than I am. If I were a regular user, I'd be disappointed that a once overly active admin has nearly dropped off the face of the planet and left the forums to do whatever it is they do.
I'm not writing this because I think I can make more of a time commitment to the FAKKU forums, but because I want to know what you all honestly think of the community as a whole. I look around and see lots of contribution, some intelligent discussion, and some goofing around but that's all I know. Many of you have spent more time on the forums than I ever have, so I ask that you, along with the newer users, answer me these questions:
What do you think of the current status of the forums? Are you happy with the active user base and your interactions with them? Is there anything wrong you see with the community? If so, what do you think needs to be done to correct it?
I might not be able to spend a lot of time doing what I did before, but I'd like to try to be a little more in touch with the community. Please keep all discussions in this thread on the topic I have set. I'd prefer not to see any arguments, no flaming of other users, or anything like that. I'm looking forward to reading all of your thoughts, and please keep in mind that if there are any questions, I might not be able to answer all of them but I will try.

i'm relatively new as an active member on the forums as i have only been here half a hear (and two days!). i'm an ex-leecher/lurker so i love the doujins and doujinshis. but i believe i've been around FAKKU! long enough to say something.
What do you think of the current status of the forums?
- other than having been a little buggy sometimes, the forums are an awesome place. i don't have to be reserved here. i can go all out. i love the topics, i lol a lot! some of the debates get a little too heated for my tastes, but hey i ain't complaining. it interesting to watch those topics and see what develops. the mods and admins do and awesome job with upkeep and whatnot. (special mention to Telco. he rules the request section with an iron fist and is VERY active with it. he's good at his job.) i love the forum's structure as well. very easy to manage.
Are you happy with the active user base and your interactions with them?
- i love the users here. they're hilarious. some more serious than other. some just sarcastic :roll: some people need to calm down though and just take a joke. or looked at comment from someone who's trollin' them and just let it go and not start a "youtube comment fight". new users are fun to talk to. and there are so many knowledgeable people on here. (i swear some of them have IQs of 230!). the FAKKU! forums are a great place to come to with not only ALL of your hentai needs, but all of your general computer needs. (or anything else for that matter.) i will continue frequenting the forums to talk to these people of mass ridiculousness for years to come. i hope they all do the same and don't get caught up in RL.

- ban hammer? :roll: jk. jk. uh, we need to have rank/status names other than FAKKU Elite and FAKKU Elder. there should be one for 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, etc. not a must, but it'd be kinda awesome. though that might provoke more post count farming and spamming than there already is. (though i don't see a whole lot. am i blind?) just a recollection of earlier discussions.
one other thing. i'm sure as hell looking forward to the new site design (i had no problem with the orange other than the fact that it blinded me :lol: ) and the new server. how it runs faster, though as of late i haven't been getting the forum error message at all.

I'm a lot less active now then I was a year ago, but I think I can still form a coherent opinion on this matter.
What do you think of the current status of the forums?
I'd say that I am very happy with it. And, on the Internet, being happy with a Forum in it's entirety is an achievement. Sure, the odd comment fight breaks out. Sure, members tend to disagree. Sure, we get the random newfag posting a "Gib me pr0n nao!" thread in Random often enough that we have a dedicated Motivational Poster for it.
And yet all these issues, if they even qualify as issues, are easily and immediately forgotten as soon as one opens up a thread and joins the discussion. Rare is it that such a large community can act in a manner befitting a happy family, but Fakku's manages it in spades.

Very. The odd newfag with a random request or bad troll topic isn't an active user anyway. They show up, drop a shitty topic or two, and fade into the mist. On the other hand, most of our older members, and quite a few up and comers, can hold a good, intelligent, and engaging conversation without breaking into bouts of swearing (Usually. I know i usually have at least three fucks per long post, and like in any family, once tempers flare, insults fly.) or insults to one's sexuality or the other shit that occurs out there.

Afore-mentioned annoying one-post trolls. But the only way to keep them out is to make registration exclusive or implement some form of draconian moderation scheme, which would be idiotic.

As for the current state of the forums everything is fine in my opinion. Everything that I have a problem with will be fixed with the new design and or server if we are to believe what we have been told. The users here are nice. Many have come and I'm sad to say that some have gone. But, that's what happens. People have their reasons for staying and going. All in all Fakku is > to anything else I've been to.

The current state of the forums... let see... from my point of view (as someone who's often around at the anime section), a bit disappointing. Not so many are keen on expressing/sharing their opinions and there are some who even (unintentionally?) spam the section, rather than giving an appropriate argument/discussion. With that said, I've only gotten a chance to interact with a handful of users (who share the least common interest) in anime viewing.
I'm having a tough time finding someone who watches the same series that I'm mostly interested in, who'd be more than willing to initiate a discussion later on... no matter how hard I try to spark a conversation, no one simply bothers to talk back. I know very well that there's nothing much that can be done about it, but this is simply to answer Nikon's questions. Bottom line, the forums here are far from being perfect in contrast to what most of the others have said before me.
Don't get me wrong, I still love it here. I'm still quite new but in that 5 months I've spent here, I've truly enjoyed being a part of this community. I'm very pleased and very thankful to the people who has acknowledged my existence and has shown their appreciation for my contributions. (I wouldn't have stayed here if not for you guys) :D

However, slowly the thread quality has degraded (not one to talk, I've started....3? threads), now the bulk of the front page is "LAWLZ--YOUTUBE IS TEH SHIZZNIT"
Not a horrible topic, especially for real gold, or discussing televised reports.
But, there isn't much to really go anywhere with. It's just a short laugh and cheap reps.
Even the "Zombie Attack Plan" threads were better (please, don't necro those at the mention, they REFUSE TO DIE)
I'm just saying Maybe the mods should be more selective over what goes on which board(sans hammer, of course).

I could write a gigantic rant here, but I'm playing mana khemia, and dem potions don't brew themselves. I like this place. I have been to alot of forums, and I have never ever had this many posts everywhere. The users, the ones that actually post on a regular basis, are great people. Plus I can discuss some of my favorite anime and manga here as well as get my hentai. What's not to like? Well yeah, loading times are slow every once in a while, but other than that I don't have any major complaints.

Everything has been mostly summed up of what I would say so I can really get down to it. Other than the occasional, derailment of threads, and minor scuffles, this is a really nice place. I like it here, because it's like a melting pot of people. You have Assholes, Spammers, people who try to keep some decency, ect.
But when you think about it, this place is not perfect and it possibly never will be. There are always going to be people who for the most part like to pick apart and twist things that people say, people who derail threads to a point of not returning to what it was intended to be, and people spamming just for the hell of it.

Technically it got significantly better around April 1, with fewer debug mode screens and errors but even before that there wasn't anything all that serious. Besides, I was already used to everything to the point of ignorance. The new design also shows much promise and upgrades that fix the tiny issues here and there. No complains.
As far as non-technical issues are concerned, the random/IB section has perhaps deteriorated a little bit. It's not that there isn't good content to be found but it sometimes disappears amidst the nobrainer, post_and_forget topics. Discussion sparked on the matter on one or two occasions so maybe there will be some effect.
Apart from that, more posting in the wrong sections (damn that elusive request section ...) and not reading the rules by newbies but they quickly grow up and we're (I'm) used to it.
Some oldfag nostalgia kicks in from time to time but I push it away and look at the good/fun things in current Fakku.
User base and interaction
I'd be lying if I said I like every user around here or that no one irritates me from time to time but the nearly 1.5 years I've been here (with a few months of absence in the middle) have thought me not to express my issues unless they're are really serious ones and concern the good of the community, not my personal preference. I (and I believe most others) have some users that I very much like, enjoy talking to and reading their posts and that's all I need. The rest is easy to ignore and minor incidents rarely escalate.
I have sections where I prefer to be active in and I'm cool with that.
Anything wrong with the community ?
Stuff that I've already mentioned that's probably somewhat more common with the larger-then-ever user number. Trolls are rare and die a quick, natural death after being ignored. Spamming your way to a title is as present as it always was but it can't really be helped. Besides - no matter how little brain capacity one uses throughout those 500/1000 posts, you still pick up how the forums work, what we tend to look down upon and other stuff, so by the time someone becomes an elite/elder they're usually a higher quality user.
No serious complains about the truly active part of the community especially since I'm hardly a saint myself.
Correction suggestions
I'm not really one to spark changes and prefer to after-comment, state my mind and propose additional stuff.
As long as we keep our cool (old, titled users especially since they influence people the most), use our brains and remember to rather have fun than take all this too seriously, I think we'll be fine.
Nice hearing from you more these days Nikon. Never felt any disappointment towards you and I doubt anyone has. IRL catches up to everyone sooner or later and you still obviously care a great deal about Fakku. :D

Pretty much everything that needs to be said has been said at this point, it's a nice community (even though it tends to go up and down some), and even if the technical issues of the forum is among the worst/most annoying i've ever encountered amongst the forums i reside i still hang around here, that alone should say something about the community.

Good the way it is. Only REAL problem I have atm is the Login. Doesn't do the Auto Login anymore and if you are in Forums and login it will send you back to main page. That isn't part of the Forums though. Is it at all possible to get a better way to post uploads??? If not screw it. Oh. The Signature part is annoying. Keep it off. Don't give in to the complaints!!!

Currently, the Fakku forums remind me of my friends, the people I met two or so years ago. We like each other, we can have fun together, but we can't hang out every single day without wanting to kill each other or ourselves.
That is to say, we've known each other for a while, and we don't have a ton of new stuff to say or do. We can meet up every now and then and have fun, or we can maybe send emails back and forth, talking about some random shit we saw or read, but the "magic" of making a new friend has worn off. Does that make sense to anyone? When you make a new friend, you want to hang out all the time, and you have all sorts of shit to talk about, because you haven't talked to this person before. But after a couple of years, you know each other pretty well, and you start to repeat things.
That's what the forums feel like to me. Most everything has already been said, and now all we have are the rare good threads that create big discussions or hobbies and the random little things that make us laugh for a few minutes.
It's not that you want to say goodbye to your friends, but you don't feel like spending as much time with them as you used to. And you kind of feel like you want to make some new friends, and maybe hang out with your new friends and old friends.
(That sounds kind of gay, doesn't it? A little too "bro-mantic." Whatever.)
Anyways, I think the forums would benefit from some fresh blood, some new users willing to talk about new or different things, but of course, the problem with that is, how do we get only good new users instead of only bad ones?
