I suppose, seeing how nobody has answered yet, I'll be the first.
What do I think of the current status of the forums?
It's not bad.
We have some decent threads and some ridiculous ones. To some extent it balances out. But then there are the people who post "WELCOME TO FAKKU LOL!!1 nice to meet you" in each "meet and greet" thread that comes up. I like to see a user welcomed. But I find it annoying and ridiculous when people copy and paste the same greeting into each meet and greet thread. I mean, the user who is new can insult Fakku and some of the posters in the thread wouldn't even know it. Seems to me that all they're aiming for is a increase in post count. I don't mind that... but again, I find it annoying and somewhat ridiculous. But I don't wanna offend anyone.
So yeah we have..
good threads
ridiculous threads
some decent threads
and spammers in the meet and greet
But overall, the status is alright. I appreciate what's offered to us, the users.
Am I happy with the active user base and my interactions with them?
Yeah, I'm alright. I don't have problems with any of the users. At first I had problems with one user, couldn't remember who it was for a while. But I finally remembered who it was when I was looking through old threads and saw one of his post. ._. I won't say who it was but he said something... unacceptable. I'll leave it at that. But as time went by, I realized he wasn't a bad person. He just said something that I really didn't like. He doesn't post here anymore.. and I don't have any negative feelings toward him anymore. I was pissed though.
But yeah, putting that little story aside, I don't have problems with anyone. I actually feel well liked and supported here. Though at times I feel a bit awkward. But putting that aside as well, the community is amazing. If I didn't like it, I would've left long ago.
Oh, but one thing I dislike is when I interact with someone and we end up off topic. I try not to let it happen but it does. And to some extent, I feel responsible. But that's that.
Is there anything wrong that I see with the community?
Not much seems to be wrong with the community. However, from the time when I joined [July 19th 2008] to this point in time, the forums seem to have changed. In my opinion, they have. There's been a change from a lot of decent, good and genuine discussions to mostly random topics with discussions that seem to lack substance. However, every now and then a interesting thread pops up (I mentioned this before, in another thread) and the topic will have genuine comments/decent comments. Comments that seem as if thought was put into them. But it doesn't happen too often. Shaggy posted this one thread... about.... sex.. and teaching it to children (haha, or something along the lines). While I don't remember the thread completely, I read the comments in it. For the most part, all of them were pretty detailed and seemed well thought out. Threads like that seem to be around less often.
That's why, when a thread like this comes up (one with potential), I'll take advantage and post in it.
Additionally, a lot of the older users seem to have vanished.
(But that's not too big a deal, sorta. I don't feel like getting into it)
Finally, I may, in some way or another, have contributed to the change in the forums. I'd like to think that I didn't though, since the change doesn't seem too positive. I occasionally post threads, usually in random, but I try to give them a serious type of tone, making them more likely to have genuine posts. But overall, things seem fine. I'm happy with the community. And I don't see a need for change.
I am, however, willing to change myself if it means the outcome will be a positive one, one that'll be good for both me and the community.
