What's that last one from? <3 tentacles...
Okay SMJ is pretty awesome, getting the hang of it. It's still pretty confusing searching for things though. But wow I found some DVD's I think I want through them off Amazon for like 1,300 yen, and was about to pay 6,000+ off another site through YokattaWeb. lol, glad I'm taking my time here now figuring this stuff out. Some of this stuff seems tricky though. Like, games for 350 yen? eh.... hard to believe if they even work and I always want stuff "complete", but I guess I could see some of this being a gamble.
Might bug you guys with questions if things come to mind since I think I'll jump on the importing madness here, finding so much Inyouchuu stuff I want for pretty cheap! Hot damn I'm obsessed with Aojiru's art/creations... haha...
So web order sites, comshop, toranoana, d-stage, mandarake, etc, do they only sell NEW items or no?
Do Japanese PC games work on US systems? I know about region settings and have gotten plenty to run, I'm just wondering if I can slap disks in and my PC will read them?
I usually don't bother using SMJ's search tool; it's more of a pain in the ass for me than it is just to search directly through whatever site I'm using. But I can see how it could be more confusing for most, since navigation is purely in Japanese. Though really, if you spend even 20 minutes just screwing around with a site you can learn how to navigate it without much hassle at all. Even if you can't read a lick of Japanese.
I'd say it depends on where you're buying the game from, I guess.
You may use a proxy to buy from a bunch of different sites, but you can't bunch them together like that; they're all very different in operation.
I've never used Comshop so I couldn't say, Toranoana/D-Stage are only new items as far as I'm aware, though they may have a preowned section (like AmiAmi) that I'm unaware of.
Technically, Mandarake is about 99% secondhand (they do a few reservations/preorders on occasion.) But the condition of the item can vary wildly; you can find items that have never been removed from their packaging to items that reek of smoke (only happened once for me and it was with a doujinshi.) They'll usually list the item's description somewhere in the listing, and they're fairly good about keeping things accurate.
Other stores would need to be evaluated on a case by case basis.
They should boot up just fine. Installation is the problem usually, but as long as you have the unicode settings and whatever else is needed for a particular game worked out, it shouldn't be a problem.
