For now I guess I'll get a credit card since I usually use paypal(they don't allow 18+ items apparently:P)

If you don't have one already you can always obtain a check card through your bank and use it, but it's always good to have a credit card on hand in case of an emergency. And no, buying a dakimakura whose pre-order date is about to pass does not count as an emergency. ;)

Paypal works just fine for just about everything but Mandarake, who are pretty stringent about their "no Paypal for adult items" policy. I pay for just about everything else with Paypal, be it direct orders (Evening Call, B&W Store) or proxy fees to Yokatta/SMJ.


Edit: Interesting. It appears as if the new Evening Call cover will be produced by P80, with a range of material options available.

Do covers go up for resale often?

Very rarely, but it depends on the circle. Some (like Dakemakura) will have almost all of their covers available at any time, others will often have some leftover stock of a few covers (HOP, Evening Call, etc.) and others will almost never do a resale once the cover has had a web reception/sold at a few events (Ankokoubou.) Some of those covers are actually still available on HOP's website, but they only have 1-5 of each item in stock. An actual second reception/resale is pretty rare, regardless of circle.

Speaking of which B&W store has about 10 old covers for ordering, pretty much remaining stock.

I might still toss in an order and likely won't have to pay it off until June and just hope I can come up with the money by then. But the B&W Store loli set takes precedence, should I come up with the cash. And yeah, there were a few covers from the B&W Store stock that I would have considered, but I didn't have the money when they were up for preorder and I don't have it now. T_T

How would one go about ordering from Toranoana? Do they take paypal like some of the others you have talked about or will I have do use someone like shoppingmalljapan? Toranoana doesn't accept international orders, so you'd have to use a proxy. I'd probably recommend Yokatta Web in this case, since their special order rates are really good.

Couple questions regarding Yokatta:
Do you have to register with them and place a deposit, or just shoot them an email with what you want and then pay them for your invoice? I have never used their service(s) before and just want to make sure that it's legit. Don't want to be spending money I don't have for something that is going to go "missing" in the mail ya' know? ;)

For weborders, you pay up front and then they order for you and then you pay for shipping once it arrives at their warehouse. I've only had them ship one package to me personally, but have some other stuff on order with them. I haven't had any problems with them, and other people have used them successfully, but I suppose there's never a guarantee that the proxy service won't screw you. >_>

Speaking of Yokatta, just received a nice email. My Rin Tohsaka dakimakura has arrived and was asked whether I'd like to have it shipped now. While I would love to have her now, I'm going to get her shipped with my other dakimakura's in May. Very nice of Yokatta to ask, although now I'm anxious. :D

Shashin really highlighted the only downside to Yokatta, you pay up front. I'd prefer not to, but the price overall is good and Yokatta has great communication so I don't really mind. I haven't had any issues so far, though once you order you're pretty much stuck paying what ever shipping fee they request as it's not like you can refuse since they have your items and you already paid. Saying that, the item I had shipped was good shipping price so not a problem there. :)

Yea, they are legit. I've ordered a few times from them. Aside from what others have said, sometimes they do take a couple/few days to respond (especially if you request your items be shipped), or rarely not at all (so you'll need to re-send an email). But normally it is a day or less for placing orders and asking questions.

And to re-iterate as mentioned before, the total they quote you will also include not only the commission fee, but all the possible bank fees, domestic shipping fee, and so forth. So if your total is more than the item + 700yen commission, you'll know why.

And as far as being stuck with whatever shipping fee they request, all stores/proxies are the same. It isn't like you can bargain down the shipping lol. But to be more clear, when your item does arrive and you want to ship out, you can choose what international shipping method you want. I normally have them quote me both SAL and EMS.

They did do one odd thing before which made shipping one figma cost way more than it should. They put it in a box, then wrapped it with another box, then put that inside a bigger box with newspaper. So 3 boxes lol -_-.

A nice thing (although I'm not sure how long others hold items for, but normally its 1-3 months) is they hold items for up to 4 months.

Also I don't know if it was mentioned, and I'm not familiar with other proxies that take paypal payments so it may be the same, but they require you to pay the fees. You can either send them a personal payment, or they can send you a separate payment to pay the paypal fees.

I'm not quite sure how they get away with accepting so many personal payments though. I know of someone who did proxy for cheap if not possibly free, but got warned by paypal that he was getting too many personal payments. He never requested it though, but people sent it to him like that anyways. So he had to tell people to just normal pay him.

SMJ will not ask you to pay Paypal fees and they do not ask you to pay upfront. And they have a nice UI to see for yourself whether your items have arrived.

Heh, yeah, it will quickly eat away at your finances. I started out with figures about two years ago (actually doujinshi and transitioned into figures.) I thought that was an expensive hobby... and then I started buying dakimakura covers and it just completely blew away any figure spending.
