Help me out FAKKU

Okay, so I have officially 3 job interviews lined up.

I just got a call from Panera Bread -- and I have to say he sounded desperate.
He called and wanted to know if I could come in today. (When he called it was Saturday 10:40am) and I'm like sure, what time would you like me in? And he suggested 2pm. That's fine. Then he wanted to know if I could come in before 12. I misunderstood him and thought he meant 12. Again, I said sure. That gave me time to get a shower and get dressed and drive a mile down the road.

He said no no, I mean like, nowish and before 12. I laughed a little nervously and was 'umm, well I'd kinda like to get a shower before I go in' and he said okay, 2 is fine then. I asked if he was sure, and he said Yep. And I said thank you and we hung up.

Okay - so my problem is. My other 2 interviews.

I have a payroll technician interview lined up on Monday at 10am. I have a feeling once they see that I'm 19, I most likely won't get the position. Because I don't have actual experience in it (though how hard could punching numbers in a database be?) But I can pull the card that it would be more then a job to me, but an educational experience, because it would be something I would need to learn about after I get my doctors degree in chiropractic.

On Tuesday at 11:00am I have an interview with Best Buy. Now I've worked for them before, and I looved my job. I was seasonal though so they didn't keep me part time. This position is full time. They pay full timers a fuck ton of money for a simple sales job. Like $11-$12.50 an hour. They're aware that I have experience and that I've also gotten an MVP award for highest sales as well. So odds are looking good for this job.

The only thing is, I'm pretty sure I'll find out right away from Panera (and by the way, in case anybody doesn't know what that is, it's like a not cheap sandwich place. I mean it's not ungodly expensive, but people who want a real nice deli sandwich and soup in a big bread bowel go there. I wouldn't expect to get paid more then $8 an hour.) that I'll get hired right away.

But I don't want to throw out my other options either.
But I'm afraid that if I act sassy and tell him that I'll have to think about it. Then I'll lose my opportunity which in case I don't get the job.

I thought about telling him I'd be busy this week and wouldn't be able to start right away, but I know I won't find out if I have the job right away from either company. Best Buy when I first got hired was 3 different interviews. And I know that payroll technician will go 'well we'll think about it and call you within the next week on whether or not you have the job'

Should I start and if I get the other job then quit Panera? <_< It's not like I have to put them on my resume. It's just a lunch/dinner place.

Guh, I don't want to throw my other options away, but I don't want to risk throwing this one away either.

I'd work at Panera Bread at least a week, while waiting to hear back about the other jobs. Like you said, you don't have to put it on your resume. I have a friend that just stopped going to one place, his way of saying that he quit, and he still gets jobs without much trouble. Actually, I think he's done it twice. The point is, Panera Bread's opinion of you isn't going to matter much in the future. And the money you earn while waiting for the other jobs to say something would certainly help.

They know I have experience and they also know I've gotten an MVP award.
Like I said I'm aiming for Best Buy, they have a fucking awesome discount too.

But I don't want to throw any chance of having a job away either. Just in case for whatever reason I don't get the job. I know I thought I had a job lined up for when I first moved to Georgia, but after my second interview I was told the following week that they decided to hire the one doctors niece instead. You just never know if you're gonna get the job.

Well ask yourself how often do you go to that place to eat. Best not to piss off the people who prepare your food.

I'm with ShaggyJebus on this one. Plus, Panera Bread is an awesome place, to work at and to hang out at.

Umm... well if you worked for Best Buy before, you should know better about system in that place so I think you'd be more comfortable there. Though the option of Panera Bread is also great in fact maybe even better but some companies that include food in their products can be very strict. There might even be required training sessions. If you want to work in some other place later on, the better option would be Panera Bread since it's tougher there. This will raise your credibility and help you on applying for a better job in the near future.

Gotta say I'm jealous of your options. XD

Personally I think Best Buy would be the most secure that you think you have an ample chance of getting the job.

I have experience like that. I worked 2 years at Subway so I'm pretty sure that's why they called me up.

I don't think any food job is real tough, unless you're working at a 5 star joint.
It's not a matter of where I'd be comfortable - I'm living on my own now so I need to pay the bills. It goes down to whichever place pays more.

Best Buy would pay more plus I'd get an awesome discount for when I want to get a TV and for when I get my washer and dryer.

I'm aiming for there because there's benefits beyond benefits as to why I'd want to work there - it's a great company to work for.

Panera Bread I decided I'm going to take the job if offered. Who knows, I may even be able to put a 2 week notice in. I have to get interviewed by 3 people, plus a drug test and have to wait for results and then they got to put me on the schedule. I know it took me a month to finally get into Best Buy the first time. You have to -really- want to work there, because they do fuck around when it comes to interviews.

I learned that it wasn't coincidence either that they make you wait 45 minutes before your interview. They have you sit and you have to wait and they see if you walk out or how you react to it. I happened to be sitting in front of a big screen on a big comfy chair <__< I didn't mind.

I am saying aim for Best Buy, thou if it were me I'd try to have as many job as possible, but that's just me.
So, wait out for Best Buy, seems you have a really good chance at getting the job, and since you loved it so much, it's better to love what you do, nano desu.

The guy was an absolute asshole.

See, I'm from the north so I'm used to higher income. The minimum wage in Georgia is like 5.75 or something. He did say me asking for $8 was too high, that it wasn't fair for the other coworkers. I explained that with my expenses I would need to make about $8 and still be able to afford food. He said he understood.

So after the interview he asked me if I had any questions, I asked him what position he's hiring for, part time or full. He explained both, but the only problem he had with me was the wage I was asking for. He flat out said 'the only problem I have with you' in a really looking down rude way. I said sorry, that that's what I need to make, I said he could drop it to 7.50 but I'd need to work 30 some hours at least.

He said he had some people working for only $6.30 an hour. The idea of that still sends WTF through me, WHO can live off of 6.30 an hour? My rent alone is $600 a month, then I have utilities for only a one bedroom apartment! I have my car, and car insurance, plus food. WHO can live with only 6.30?

I think that's bullshit. Maybe he was just trying to get me to go lower, maybe he won't hire me because of that. Oh well, here's lookin' at Best Buy.

He said he had a few more people to interview and would get back to me if he found me most suitable. Fuck you Panera ;p

I live in the South, and earning less than $7 an hour isn't uncommon, especially for restaurants and fast-food places.

That's unfortunate. Too bad they didn't succeed in making minimum wage universal at $7.25 as they planned. I'd hate to live in the South where several states have no minimum wage laws, they can just offer you whatever they want and you have no legal grounds to fight it.

Minimum wage in Georgia is like 6.55. They raised it half a year ago.

Yes, even kroger baggers are making 6.55 at a minimum. Union is still trying to raise it to 7.50 an hour I think.

I'm not American but I think every state has a minimum wage law. Unless you mean more south... I don't know if Cuba has minimum wage... perhaps 3 bananas?

Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama have no minimum wage laws.

You beat me to it, but you listed more states then I was aware.

@Illumi, are you sure it's 6.55 because he definitely stated 6.30 several times that he paid his employees with.

Georgia's minimum wage is actually still $5.15.
