How/Where/When did you started collecting anime figures?

Just tell your story how'd you how/when/where started collecting Anime toys full blast.
Before I was a Marvel/DC collector. Love all those poses and stuff they come out. But then in the year 2000, I've been seeing alot of anime figures on the loose, didn't paid much attention though since Iam more into marvel/dc type of toy, though I do have a few anime toys.
Later on I became a fan of Love Hina, then saw a gashapon set, bought that and another anime School Rumble bought another gashpon set, then I saw there are 1/8 figures and I said wow I gotta have one of those so I saved and got me one....The rest is history! And now the anime toys/figures are the ones I collect, though I do go for poseable figurs more than static ones.

I was always into anime since I was little but it didn't take off until year 2000 when I really got into watching anime (due to easy downloads), but still wasn't into figures yet. It was then in 2005, that I went to the local comic store to play CCG and was always surrounded by figures and what not. My friend that worked at the store showed me a set of Gundam Seed Destiny gash set and as a fanatic of Gundam I had to get it. Not long after that I was hired by the store and got a 30% discount. Thats when I got hooked. I mainly collect 1/8 or 1/6 pvc of characters I like or find neat and only when a nice prepainted statues comes along I would then get that.

Although this is about figures, and that I don't have any, I'll just talk about my Gunpla if it's alright with you guys. It began with Gundam Wing. I first saw the series and was immediately obsessed with it. I went to boxing day in Canada and I bought my very first Gundam, Wing Gundam. Then my collection started to grow as I bought most of the American ver. MSIA from the Wing series. Bought some 1/144 models but they broke... :cry: . I stopped for like about a couple of years then I started to collect Gundam SEED American ver. MSIA and the Jap ver. MSIA. When Gundam 00 was introduced, I first bought the Gundam Exia MSIA, Gundam Dynames, Gundam Kyrios, Gundam Throne Drei, Gundam Throne Zwei, Gundam Throne Eins, and then Gundam Virtue. My taste in variety widened as I started to buy UC series EMSIA. Those were Gundam MK-II w/waveglider, Hyaku-Shiki, 2x Zaku II, and a SEED Stargazer Strike Noir Gundam. When Robot Damashii was introduced for the new line for Gundam 00 S2, bought the 00 Gundam, Cherudim Gundam, Union Flag Custom II, 0-Riser, Seravee Gundam and Ahead. My GN-X III A-LAWs Type should come in tomorrow. I also have a 5 Gundam models which I'm proud to say are still in fine condition. I first bought the 1/144 Union Flag, Blu Duel Gundam, GN-X III A-LAWs Type, then moved on to 1/100 Gundam Avalanche Exia (that thing is a bitch to build >_<) and Over Flag.
Now that I think about it, I regret buying SEED MSIA cause they suck IMO.

I only recently started, I always thought the figures looked cool but never thought of buying them because of shipping complications and the like.
Later on I found some reliable sites and started to browse, but nothing really caught my eye at that moment. That was until I saw the Nendoroid saber lion figure, that was my first purchase. Now I collect TYPE-MOON figures.

I started when I was 17. I had always seen anime models in a nearby store, but no way to afford them, but then I got my first job. My very first page check, all $108, went to purchasing a set of Final Fantasy figurines that I still have on display in my room. Naturally, that was only the beginning.

haven't started to collect them yet but i have had my eye om an miku hatsune model for an while ... it is the best modeled one i have seen for ages anyway..... yeah thats it

i just started collecting them i bought 2 on my family vacation "2 tandom twin figures" i had it from them for 2 weeks and i'm adding when i can afford it.

I suppose it was after I watched Love Hina. I found a comic shop which had those small Love Hina plastic figurines and got Motoko and Shinobu. I also got the Galaxy Angel figurines (from the special box set) later on. My recent, uh, acquisitions were Saber and Rin Tohsaka Figma figures.
And Gunpla, it started out when my dad got me a 1/144 HG Zeta C1 Plus model kit. This was back before I really watched Gundam (except that one time I watched Char's Counterattack on LASER DISC, though it was all in Japanese). Then the Stateside Wing Gundam explosion of the Gundam franchise got me into their respective HG 1/144 kits...and the rest...well...*looks over at four untouched/unfinished MG kits, plus 30+ completed HG/MG gunpla* :shock:

I started collecting, although my collection is still very small, in high school. I just got done watching Ikkitousen and was so transfixed on Kan'u Unchou that I had to get a figurine of her when I saw one on sale.
When it arrived, my mom was there and she was like "You like that kind of thing, huh?"

Again, I still don't have many, but they were just too reasonably priced, and infinitely cool, not to get a few...and so it started. :P
I remember my parents being a bit puzzled about why I bought it, as you might expect, but my dad asking "so...is that one of those hentai things then?" was just too funny. I never asked how he knew that word. :D

My first was just a random gashapon at a comic book store of Onegai Twins, it was cheap. I like buying gashapons, because sometimes you can find really well done ones among the trash.

At Eirtakon! Anime convention in Dublin, Ireland. I bought plushies and Love Hina manga XD
Then in Forbidden Planet (shop in Dublin) I bought a figure of a girl from To Heart 2: Another Days... although I never seen her in the anime or OVAs, just the opening credits O.o

I started collecting around 2004/2005. I can't remember which one was first but I have about 40-50 figures now. Last one I bought was a Jigen figure.

When i played Gundam Wing (SNES) around 1997. Since then i searching all about gundam series (anime and manga) and collected gunpla. That time i didn't interest in figures no matter how good they are. I started collecting figures when Gundam SEED on aired and i bought Gundam SEED Heroine series (thanks to my best friend who succeed poison me to buy those like he did). Airi(MegaHouse) is my 1st 1/8 scale figure. After that i bought Hatsune Miku(GoodSmile) and i really like it because she is the best vocaloid figure i've ever seen and made me suffered, searching for her all over hobbyshop. >_<
But my top priority for my collection is still gunpla.
