any bokuto properly manufactured is created of a tempered wood or bamboo, supporting the design with a much stronger constitution then usual. most... or rather all of these practice swords dont have a sufficiently sharp edge to implicate during a kill, but im positive that they could be used as a murder weapon.
;o keep on askin!
Not necessarily. Mass produced bokuto tend to be made from porous wood which makes them easy to break. In terms of durability and quality it depends on both the choice of wood and the craftsman. As for the matter of the sharpness of the edge, not all bokuto are manufactured or crafted, for that matter, with the intention of it being used as a practice sword. I don't like to reference anime to prove a point IRL, but in Outlaw Star, Suzuka's primary weapon was a bokuto. In reality, I've seen a number of sharpened ones on sale, specifically designed to be used as weapons.
We'll both agree that they can be used as a murder weapon. The desired effect wouldn't necessarily be the same as using an actual katana, but if crafted properly, they could in fact work in the same manner.
