Is there a limit to what is okay in IB?

EDIT: I mean spamming threads in IB in general, they don't have to be super serious.

Earlier this evening, a thread was created in IB. It wasn't serious enough for SD, and it would have been moved if it was created in Random. The thread start out as a discussion, but soon degenerated into random spamming, auto playing videos, and general tomfoolery. I felt this was unnecessary, as the thread was made to foster discussion. Now, what I am asking is if there is a limit to what should be allowed in IB. Should people be allowed to jump into a serious thread with random images and videos, or should it be kept a discussion even though it is in IB?

As long as it isn't blatant spamming of a single topic, it doesn't matter whether the discussion was serious or not. Off topic in IB is mkay.

P.S. Your poll implies it's ok so long as the discussion isn't "serious." I don't really care, I just thought you should know.

Honestly I think we need a new forum section called General Discussion (Not like the one in Anime and Manga) IB is pretty much spam topics. Random is for topics with more intelligence but still in all silliness. Serious Discussion for serious topics. There's no forum for something in between. I think we need another forum topic for the middle ground of discussion that is not serious enough for Serious Discussion.

On topic, Spamming shouldn't be allowed. As it may be the spam forum, but just blunt spamming without contributing to the spam topic itself in any way shape or form in the slightest shouldn't be allowed unless the topic is within that form (Bunny spam thread). Autoplaying video should be ban worthy imo. Alot of forum members live in countrys where the internet is not unlimited or fast. Wasting their bandwidth. Videos should be in a spoiler tag.

Also stop quoting autoplay videos that's just dumb.

Except for threads specifically made for spam (which I find dumb) I don't think spamming shit should be allowed in any sections at all. It's just annoying and encourages already bad posters to continue posting shit nobody cares about. It's not like reading people's spam is in any way entertaining despite how funny certain people seem to think it is. Anyone could just take ten second to pretend someone spammed the fuck out of a thread and it would probably actually be more interesting.

I would hardly call that a serious topic I can understand that Waar was the one that made the thread and not you TMS just so that the thread can voice the opinions of those who may not have liked Kaho's catchphrase, but then it just got way out of hand. I mean we've been down this road before with talking about how Spalose says "nano desu" after all of his posts and Prowl with him typing all of his posts with purple colored font. They all just ended badly since the users are still posting like that to this day I really never saw the point in that thread because you may have voiced your opinion but that isn't going to stop Kaho from posting like that. To me I actually like this kind of diversity among the forums because it kind of shows that they put a little more personality in their posts. I'll admit that in the beginning I did kind of find it annoying but like all things I just got used to it and I don't really mind it anymore. But to answer your question I do agree that spamming serious topics in IB is not okay because even though in IB spamming is allowed it's best to keep it in spamming threads not serious discussion threads. That thread did got out of control by all the spamming I even contributed to that a little bit but it was mainly because I thought that the topic no longer needed to be discussed since Kaho had already said a dozen times that he wasn't going to stop. It just derailed from it's original topic and went into some kind of flaming thread but whatever what's past is past we can just put it all behind us. I just hope that in the future we won't be making the same mistake again, once you post a thread about another user saying something is wrong with that person or the way they type you can pretty much predict it's going to go bad.

Random is already pretty "random" to begin with. If that is so and if IB is more than that, then the topics for IB would range from serious *tho we have already a serious discussion thread* to infinitely random. As for spamming, it lags the server due to spam traffic so I don't agree with it. But IB is IB, let the admins set the rules out more for that section.

I can't really imagine a thread not fitting into one of the three sections (SD, Random, or IB). How can a thread be kind of serious (though not enough to be in SD) yet fit in IB more than Random?

If there's any chance of something intelligent being said by more than one user, then it can go in Random, right?

EDIT: Having seen the RUUUUUUUU thread and wasting way too much of my life reading it gives me a bit more perspective. I think that thread was doomed to fail, simply because of the nature of it and the fact that it was in IB. When a thread's in the Incoherent Babbling section, people feel like they don't have to hold back. They can go off-topic without breaking the rules because, well, that's what IB is - a place for shitty/simple conversations and shenanigans.

If a person doesn't want a thread to be derailed, then he/she should work to make sure that the thread has enough content to fit into another section, like Random. That way, people won't be able to derail it without breaking the rules, and if it is derailed, a mod can be informed and salvage the thread.

the major issue was post count, i foresaw users such as myself (always have to defend anything i post), tms, and kaho posting 10+ times I didn't believe it was right for random, plus the chance that it would have been locked and or deleted due to the spam users who did not like the topic would have brought made me reconsider.

It's a shame really, had TMS posted the thread people would have complained about him beating up on Kaho as I was accused of for Hime, but as I created the thread it still saw opposition when both users asked for a poll of fakku members opinions. You really don't know what you want do you?

Or how about we try to keep topics on-topic? I mean in general there's no rule about topicality on IB, but if someone's making a thread, derailing it is a pretty douche bag move no matter who does it and whose thread it is. Some threads just aren't fit for either Random or SD. There's no point in de-railing a thread for 100 posts just because one person doesn't like the opinion of someone else. If you don't agree with someone's opinion that much, say your peace and don't post in the thread anymore.

It's beyond me why a forum full of adults can't act as such. I mean, I'm all for fun but srsly guys.

Keep in mind this is my opinion, not the rules.

It's more the implication that the users should be adults (disclaimer) and thus should act as such.

Concerning that thread, I'm not sure what to say . . . it stayed on topic for quite a long time, and it only seemed to go off-topic after it had already dissolved into mindless fighting. Honestly, I kind of like that the thread got derailed, because around page eight or nine, nothing new was being said, no progress was being made on the issue, and people were way too heated.

There is a reason to why people say they're over18. The problem isn't if people are +18 or not. It's if they act like they are adults or not.

@krystel- Yes, random is random. And tegumi did have some reason in saying that your threads are bad. Lets be honest, most of your topics that are in random really belong in IB. Other than that, like I talked to her already, I don't have a problem with your threads. She claims they are too stupid and shouldn't exist, but I feel differently about it. I think theyre actually fun and it's ok to have them in IB. Just put them in the right section and it's all good.

On topic: Derailling threads (even in IB) by spamming and such is bad and shouldn't be allowed. I admit I get carried away sometimes and post the hagu image when I shouldn't, and continue some off topicness.
But I don't think threads like lollollol12's bunny thread and the yugioh cards thread are bad. They're for innofensive spamming and a few lols, that's all.

The thread started off as serious, and become a horrible landfill for everything that is wrong with the internet after about 5 pages.

Again, it was just to guage the public's feelings on the matter, not to make him change.

This is what I mean, though. We should just avoid the spam altogether, so they don't turn into flaming threads and personal battles.
