Is valentine's day a real holiday?

It's real in the sense that it's been around forever. It's fake in the sense that companies do hype it up and try to get people to buy shit. Then again, even if companies did nothing, people would still remember it and buy shit anyways.

It's a tradition, and it isn't going away any time soon. Just gotta live with it.

Well, I hear in Korea there are 3 days like this

14 February = Valentine Day, where girls give the choco to boys

14 March = White Day, where boys give a present to girls that give him choco in valentine day

14 April = Black Day, where people that still single and get heart-broken grouped together, wearing black clothes, and eating black noodles

cuz its going to be sunday in feb 14.. XD well correct me if im wrong..

It celebrates the feast of Saint Valentine. If you are not Catholic, then it is not a holiday.

Soba. I believe that's the only type of noodles I have eaten in Japan which I can think of that would be near black.

As for Valentine's day, it is a real holiday. What isn't real is the part where people run around frantically spending money to "prove their love". I think if the person returns your feelings, then it won't matter how much money you spend, or even if you spend money on them at all. The true reason for this holiday is to put aside time, at least, for your significant other :)

For those of you who don't know, Valentine's Day of 2010 happens to coincide with the first day of the Lunar New Year, which is a major holiday for lots of people in Asia.

As such, Valentine's Day is a real holiday... at least for this year. :D
