I just watched, not an hour ago and the visuals make about 91% of the movie. That is not to say they weren't impressive, but it seems like the entire movie was marketed, and grossed, solely upon them.
Plot, as others have said, is quite simple and oh-so predictable, with lots of "expendable characters" along the way.
What really caught my attention though, was Colonel whatishisname... well, his attitude at least, sooo manly.
I'd give the film a 6, but I'll rate it a solid 7, just for the colonel.

Lol, the colonel was total hardass. While watching the film, I totally saw that Jake was going to master the Toruk (the big-red pterodactyl) when he was studying the Toruk skull. So predictable, like others mentioned.

COLONEL MILES QUADRITCH...he is one badass hard to kill...i was hoping he could kill jake...now he is my favorite villain beside King Bradley

Curious and Wondering
Just watched this movie on IMAX with my gf... plot and story is simple, but effectively used. It was great to watch - the visuals were simply amazing, the graphics were impeccable. I can see why this one cost so much to make. It was like going to a magical world and having a spectator's seat as the visual spreads in all its splendor. But I was hungering for more substance and action in the story.
I'd give it a 9.2... it was more to me as if the visuals overpowered the story. But compellingly entertaining nevertheless.

It certainly has the visuals, especially if watched in a 3D movie theater but I felt that the story was really, really predictable, cliche even I do like the whole Taoist vibe I got from the movie though, everything is connected.
*Side Note* Is it just me, or is the pilot girl always getting offed in her movies?

Nah, it fits her character perfectly as a straightforward, gung-ho, and tough woman. I don't think she's bad actress, but yea, HeroDuke's right in that we really didn't get enough screen time on her for us to get attached to her character.

I saw it recently, I'd give it about an 85. Story wasn't terrible, but that was probably because it's been reused by more that one successful source. (See also: Disney's Pocahontas, Ursula Le Guin's The Word for World is Forest) Visuals were stunning, but not that stunning. Still, I'd only watch it in the theaters, because having the ultimate viewing experience when seeing it is about the only way it's any good.
