It's actually pretty damn significant. To me, at least.
I have a king sized bed with slats (wooden planks used as support for sleeping on), which if anyone who has ever owned a slatted bed will know are a fucking nightmare. Today I thought enough is enough and nailed some of the slats down. They no longer move or make a noise when I move around on my bed (which means the slats won't move and therefore make no noise as I'm bashing one out, and it won't feel like a deathtrap getting off and on it).
I've put up with a dodgy bed in some form for 4 years now and I am so happy I could cry.
My previous bed had slats which were weak as fuck, and the plastic holders were flimsier than that. They would often ping out while I was just chilling on the bed which means I would just suddenly fall through.
Sometimes they would break.
Sometimes I couldn't be fucked to put them back in and at its worst, one side was completely sunk in.
Sometimes it happened so many times in a day it drove me to near complete insanity.
Almost all the slats broke within a year of owning the bed.
In the end I resorted to buying a gigantic plank of wood and used it to sleep on in place of the broken slats. Sorted. Until the bed eventually broke while I was laying on it, so we had to get a new one.
When buying my current bed I was unaware that it too, had slats. I did ask but the guy didn't seem to know. But I bought it anyway. Lo and behold it did, but they were stronger so I've not had any major problems with it. My bed's since warped slightly so they no longer fit properly and kept falling out of place. My mattress is heavy and the plank of wood I used for the other bed is even heavier. It's a pain in the dick to sort every week or so, thus the need for a relatively permanent solution.
