Alright well basicly I used to want to be a fire fighter like my brother and my dad. But my family didnt want me to because it was too dangerous and everything else. Well I went ahead and joined a training program for it anyways. I had to study all day and night almost everyday and when I wasnt doing that I was running to get in shape having todo push ups and everything whenever I was there. Its basicly just like an accademy and I became really good at that became certified and I now know more then most fire fighters on the job and I have over 500 hours ride out time with helping them. Well I have been having money trouble so I decided to put this on hold and join the navy because really have no choice because I owe money now. Now all the sudden my family is all mad at me because Im not doing the fire thing anymore because I was coming home every night talking about how I saved peoples lives and like repelled from a helicopter and all this stuff. Now they wont let me not do it so they are making me go back for the class of 2009 but I am already certified and I told the lafd cheif. He told me that sence I already know as much as I can learn from the program I should be leader of the class of 2009 and train them.
So that is always a great honor because thats ushaly the fire fighters job and I cant just get on because I am having trouble getting in because I dont have a degree in fire science and I cant afford the classes. So now Im being thrown all around in family drama and I cant just do what I want todo anymore all of the sudden...
Its like when I am going to school and everything on my own everyone tells me its a waste of time and not todo it then when I stop everyone gets pissed at me.

That's pretty impressive, being able to go through all that and still be able to get back into firefighting. :P
Although I didn't know there was such a thing as "Fire Science". I though that most knowledge needed for fires was "It burns things." :shock:
So, is it like a combustion-based chemistry class or summat? >.>

It's your money, according to what you're typing. You decide what you want to do about because you don't have the money right now. Not your family. So go ahead and join da navy like you wanted to for the money. Seems like the family isn't paying for your education.

Well, my family has never been like that, so I guess I don't really know how you feel, but honestly, fuck what your family thinks it's your life and you are an adult. Do what you want to do. It's not like anything you want to do is chump work. It's worthwhile shit.

Kallen the road your walking in is tough all I can say is stand strong
Your friends and parents are nothing but obstacles in your life because I know that feeling sometimes you feel like your alone since know one stops to listen and understands what your going through and does who tell you to give up don't listen to them just stand by your beliefs and work hard those are the kind of people who succeed in life.

If you're looking for a way to get into the class then get letters of recommendation from the people you've worked with. As for the money issue, take a year off and wash dishes or something. If someone gives you shit then tell them to write "fuck you" on a cheque for $1000 or go go away.

I know I am going to get in trouble for double posting but I am still not sure how to quote multiple people so I hope I dont get in to much trouble for this because I just got home.
Well its not so much about the fire burning its about all the things that burn and how it burns like
there are class A B C D E fires and like you cant put out Type C fires with water. and you have to use certain chemicals to put out certain things. Also we have to know all the chemicals and know what might be in the air. for example A = regular wood paper and so on fires B is gas fires C is electrial and D is Metal ext there is a hole list

I would love to just work at some chump place around town untill I can get on but no where will hire me I turned in 200 applications and only gamestop responded and now they are cutting my hours last week it was 7 and now this week it was 3... and next week I am not even working... Its a joke.
I worked at hollister as a model and didnt work one day for 2 weeks so I quit there before I even worked. the economy is making this hell even the fire stations are cutting off the hiring and no matter what fires never stop. So that dosnt make sence to me.
But I hate the military I am not alright at all with the thought of hurting someone because I am athiest so I believe that this is the only chance I got and I feel like 1 life is worth more then any money in the world or anything. That is why I want to be a fire fighter because even if I lose my life if I save atleast 2 lives It will be worth it and ive already saved 13.

well kallen, all i can really say is do what you want to do, ignore what your family tells you. its your life not theirs. if they cannot accept that, its too bad. they shouldnt be telling you what to do with your life. do what you think is best, dont let your family influence your decisions

I'm an atheist and I don't really value most life at all.
But that's another issue entirely.
I know times are tough. I work in a restaurant and I just recently got back to full time hours, and that's because people quit/got laid off. Past few months I've had several weeks were I only worked 2 or three days, and I'm actually GOOD at my job.
I didn't try that hard at getting a second job, but still, I had problems getting another job in the same field I work in now, with a few years experience.
I'm just saying, I get that it can be rough these days getting a job, especially with your experience being in a specific field. Although, were I live (Virginia) some places will hire former military based on that alone. I guess it's not like that where you live.
I guess just keep trying. Use the internet to your advantage.

I turned in applications everywhere I tryed construction produce. Retail and all of it doing retail after construction and fire stuff is weird because if you got caught standing around at a station you get in so much trouble and have todo push ups you have to be working constantly. at my retale store I stand around for 2 hours then someone comes in every so often its like people actully get paid for this Im BORED@!
