Hey, I kind of wondered why people used an avatar. Id like to see more people faces. But I can respect people like to hide behind a image. Putting oneself out there can be hard. I guess for whatever reason I don't feel the need to hide. I mean I am who I am and people can judge me if they want. At the end you give them all the power. If you let they're surface judgment affect you.
Sex and naughty things like hentai can bring heavy judgment. I felt it while working phone sex. Sometimes when I comment oh hentai people call me a perv. I don't feel I'm a perv honestly. I just have a healthy sexual drive. I view it a being open lol.
It's not because were afraid, mainly done because most of us like art/anime. Also it's easy to find a pic of a random person and use it which many users have done. Not saying that your picture isn't you, but it's common for people to do so for reasons such as the girls an attractive cam girl, persons a cosplayer, etc. Avatars aren't about showing the truth, they are a personification of what you wish to represent for yourself. I know I'd get bored just using my pic and I quite enjoy when people don't know what I look like, because to me personality is more important then the person. I also just don't care if people know what I look like, doesn't change who I am.
I can see your view on the subject. I guess for me I find it hard connecting with another. With constant view of an anime character. I wanna see who I'm talking you. Even with my over seas pen pals I still know what they look like. Its just my wish to see more peoples actual faces. Personality of course is important :) In the end I keep chatting it up with people. no matter real pic or anime pic :3
The problem with that is you don't know who is lying and who isn't. I tell people all the time I could be an 80 year old man who yells at kids that get too close to my lawn. Hell there's even technology to simulate your video and voice so you sound/look totally different to others (cool but freaky). It's too easy to make a fake persona so if you need proof or some sort of verification to know who you are talking to is the real person to make a connection, then you need to rethink how you use the internet. Catfishing as it's been dubbed is a very notorious thing nowadays, anyone could be anyone.
I know for myself I don't go off of an image that I see when I get to know people because everyone is so different with how they handle themselves on the internet. People that have said they were girls/guys were not and I don't get upset by that though because if I liked them as a person then that doesn't matter to me? We all have our reasons to act how we do behind a screen. I myself can't be anyone else but me so I am who I am for better or for worse. I have the friendships I do because I enjoyed talking with the person regardless of what they could have looked like. It took time for those friendships to grow to the point we knew what we all looked like.
Anyways, I think it's great you are open and honest about yourself, but do be careful with what you perceive as the truth online, too many people lie about themselves.
