I don't join those contests, however I think it's a very dumb move for Bankee to do that, even if it is for promoting sales. There is a big chance that the event is gonna be a flop, or worse even discourage other modelers to join such contests in the future, so while they have the time they should revise the rules. It also doesn't help much that Toys R' Us or any other similar shop sells Gunpla at economically crippling prices, you can get Gunpla at other specialty shops for significantly lower prices, though I have to admit that the stocks of decals at Toys R' Us are very reasonably priced and they have an impressive inventory at times.
@ Gahald: Man, that guy has a lot of plamo to spare. I'd be happy enough just to build and paint my kits OOB. Nonetheless, that guy has skills.
On the other hand, I finally decided to buy the Neo Grade recast resin conversion kit for the MG Nu Gundam to convert it to the evolve version. If things go well, for the build I'd get the Strike, Freedom and SF conversions as well (Yes, call me a SEED fan boy XD, I like the SF the least though, I got the MG just for the sake of completion). It's now just a matter of waiting until the dealer gets the kit, and when I can finally have the time to build the thing.
asked some of the clerks, and yes, kits have to be bought from toys r us. I saw in the FB page of Gundam PH that probably there will be a lot of builders who will boycott the contest. Fuck damn rules.
The only place I know that has good stocks are in Megamall.
