I don't smoke because, I never found the need to. Plus I'd rather live longer then be addicted to some stick.

I smoke. Now I've seen a lot of people saying that having asthma is one of their reasons why they don't smoke. I get what you mean considering that I too have asthma, but surprisingly, the two don't conflict as much as one would assume. That could just be me, I've always been kind of weird physically. I don't really like excuses not to smoke. Its a choice and whether you have a rational justification or not, there's not beating around the bush. I could blame it on my mom, because she was a smoker early in my life, quit, and started again around when I was 10, there's a long story behind it. I could blame it on my friends, some of them were dumb and were smoking at a really young age. The only reason I can say that I smoke is because I was curious and I got addicted.

The whole thing about the effects on my health and my body are obvious to me. I think I mentioned it in the "Anti-smoking laws" thread, that shit doesn't exactly help me stop. Its motivation, but in the end it comes down to conviction. I guess at the moment, I don't feel like quitting. Don't get me wrong, I want to, but whatever happens happens. Its not like I'm trying to kill myself, which most non-smokers have asserted in the past. I care about myself and I know I'm doing harm, I just wish people would shut the fuck about it. If they don't like me smoking, say it and leave it at that.

If you can't tell by now the whole idea of people smoking committing suicide voluntarily pisses me the fuck off. I could say the same thing to people who drink coffee, soda, eat fast food, people who box, or even factory workers that are exposed to relatively unsafe working conditions. Its hard to explain, but the fact of the matter is that unless someone says that they're smoking to kill themselves, they probably aren't. Its an unfortunate side effect, but you know what, people who go tanning run the risk of getting skin cancer. Right now I'm smoking a cigarette. Ever time I take a drag, any time I light one up, I think about the worst case scenario, but the only thing it does is make me think about quitting. Its an addiction and quitting isn't as easy as flipping a switch.

My dad was a heavy smoker since I was born. Soon enough, because of second hand smoke I had asthma. I had my own inhaler, though the doctor said it wasn't too serious. When that happened my father tried not smoking around me as much and eventually I didn't need it anymore. So yeah, maybe it didn't do much to you, but it effected me when I was young and I wasn't even the one smoking. I'm just glad I don't have it anymore..

About the whole Anti-smoking laws, I think it's bullshit. Let people smoke if they want to, where they want. There's some restaurants that always have smokers in there and if that's the case - don't go there. If your that paranoid that you think being exposed to smoke for an hour is going to kill you / kill your health then why bother complaining so much - just leave. As much as I hated my dad smoking, I stayed in another room if the smoke became too much for me. I learned to deal with it for years, so I'm sure others can too.

Plus like you said, if they're going to criticize you for smoking, might as well criticize those who eat junk food/candy/drink soda too.

I personally don't like smoking, but it's not my business to tell someone to stop.

On topic: The short answer is I'm not looking forward to a long life.

The long answer, mainly it's just habit. See, before I was on probation (long story, I'm not hashing it out again) I smoked a lot of weed. So smoking cigarettes reduces the urge to smoke weed. It kinda helps as a sleep aid, but not quite as well. So once I get off probation, I'll quit smoking cigs, and go back to weed. I smoke far more cigs than weed.

I don't smoke. When I was little though I broke my moms cigarettes any chance I got, and she'd get really pissed off at me and she made me smoke one once, and said if I ever did it again she'd make me smoke another one. I was like... 6? maybe? lmao

My stomach has always been queasy in the morning and when mom would drive me to school while smoking I'd get coughing fits and gagging fits. She doesn't smoke around me in the mornings anymore. It's not just smoke, if I have to do cat litter in the mornings versus afternoon/night I'll gag and want to throw up from the smell. I just think my sense of smell is more heightened in the morning for some reason.

My ex didn't start smoking until after we broke up. Smoking cigarettes anyway. If I was around him after that and he'd be sitting close to me I could smell him and just go 'you stink.'
He'd basically go pfft, whatever.

I really find the smell unattractive, and I know nicotine has a calming effect, I just think there are other ways to calm yourself down.

I don't shun anyone who smokes, I have friends that smoke, but I don't enjoy the smell of smoke ;x it's gross.
