So I'm thinking of getting an iPhone

Yes normal phones, I've had 4 phones in my lie, This is the first Smart Phone that I've/will have had. Smart Phones do not get much cheaper than this and I'd rather have a touch screen, than a bunch keys.

iPhone is imo overpriced, I can live with waiting year or two for the technology to get cheaper and then buy something like that.

I want an iPhone as well, but I hear AT&T really screws you when it comes to signing up for a service plan.

It's not really that bad, The first billing cycle is prorated to the next months payment if you start late in the month. other than that, they don't do much. And in my experience, every single company I've dealt with have prorated systems like this.

Angelus, I just told you with all that I got with my plan - and I also have a touch screen AND a qwerty keyboard.

So it's $30 more, but I pay less a month, and have much more perks a month.



I think you're just coming up with excuses as why you should get this iphone. ANY phone has an mp3 player in it. NO phone is great with an mp3 player in it, because it sucks up battery life.

I always was curious, can you get those plethora of Apps for the iphone on your Verizon phone or other smart phone? or are these iphone exlusive?

Cause that apps that keep me from drunk dialing my friends seems REALLY usefull to me...

As far as I know the App Store is an iPhone exclusive and I got my Phone. I like it.

He gave the reason why he wanted the iPhone, Full HTML browser, App store etc, so I don't see why you think it's such a bad thing he gets an iPhone (which he already has) or wants one in the first place. Also he stated already that he doesn't text much so why would he need a full qwerty keyboard? let's not forget that if he does text he can just turn the iPhone side ways now and it turns into a full keyboard (not full full but you know what I mean).

As for the iPod part of it sucking up the battery I have never once had that happen with mine. I just chose a song and put it in sleep mode. I never listen to say 10 + hours of music when I am out anyways. Not to mention it does have screen brightness adjustments as well as many many other ways to save battery life (too lazy to mention them all) whcih will boost that up. Basically I view angelus as me in our terms of usage with the iPhone. I do and don't do a lot of the things he does and I have never once regretted buy my iPhone (hence buying a second one).

I wasn't stating that he should get the phone because of the qwerty keyboard included, nor was I saying he should get MY phone.

What I was stating was that I had a lot of very similar things, plus more with my phone for a lesser price.

I was stating that by him saying it was the best phone out there, that he was full of crock.

Okay, he gets full html web browsing. Does he get unlimited online access or will that be charged by the amount of mega pixels or time spent on there? If not, and he's going to be mainly using it for that purpose, he can expect a nice package in the mail of a bill.

That sideways texting thing is crap too. I have that on my phone as well (though optional) I don't like the feeling of texting with a touch screen. You can't feel the buttons and it's less accurate in my case.

I still think anyone with an iphone has it for aesthetics purposes.

The reason iPhone even came down in price is probably due to the fact nobody wanted to pay the shit ton of money for it. That or AT&T bullshit.

On a side note, I'm glad you at least like you phone Angelus. I just don't ever see myself getting one. If anything I've been looking into the new LG enV touch which is the same price as an iPhone 99.99. It basically looks like my phone now, but is a bit more sturdy imo. I haven't been disappointed with LG before.




I accidentally broke one of the hinges on my phone, because when I have it in my hands I twiddle with it. That goes for anything in my hands <_< God forbid I ever get a ring. My phone still works perfectly fine, to my amazement.

Well when you sign up for the plan with the iphone, you have to get the whole cabudol. So you don't get any extra charges except when you buy an app. Everything is included, so you can surf the web all day. Plus the price came down on the phone because they are making a new and better one (again).

But I agree with ziggy that the touch screen keyboard is pretty lame and frustrating to use.

But I boo on all your smart phones! I have to have a clunky international cell phone :( or I can't get calls from the US, and I'd have to get a japanese cell phone provider.

As the above user said you can surf the web all day and there will be no extra charges and most of the apps on the app store are free. The iPhone does the app process better then any other phone currently. Also I think plenty of people are completely willing to pay the money when you consider the $99 drop for the iPhone 3G (not 3GS) only happened recently and they have sold around 20 million of the things. Also the app store has had over 1 billion downloads so I think the phone is doing pretty good by anyone's standards.

The iPhone is just something that is popular to hate like apple products in general.

I suggest things like Pingo and GO-Sim

Pingo is a calling card with excellent rates and the go-sim is a provider of global sim cards for "unlocked" cell phones. You can find ways to unlock your normal cell phone or you can buy one off eBay. Both of these are highly recommended by Clark Howard who is a self made millionaire and a host of a consumer advocate radio show.

People are spending far too much on their cell phones nowadays. Hell, my ex had a cellphone she bought for $20 and the monthly payment was $20. Then again the phone was bare bones basic with calling and text message. All I use my phone for is calling and the occasional text message so I think a lot of this shit is useless bells and whistles to fluff up a horrible service and a phone that may or may not be all that great.

Angelus, I'm sure there were far better deals out there than the iPhone. Frankly, I think you bought it just for the status of saying "I have an iPhone" but whatever, it's your money

Alright, a few misconceptions that seem to be spreading here. As far is battery goes, ive spent a 3 day camping trip (while not charging) while listening to music for 15-16 hrs and still had enough time to end the trip with 10-15% battery power. The fact that my Iphone can store 1000+ songs beats the living piss out of the 100-200 my other phones could store. The apps are far superior to anything other phones have and you can design your phone to do ever more, it's like having a mod kit for you phone. No zig, your phone can't do everything the apps can do (I've had a razor2/blackberry/iphone recently). The price is less for his phone and his bill is like 10 dollars more than yours zig? Really doesn't sound like a big deal, plus the fact that you're probably on a family plan is why your phone bill is reduced. Everything you said that came with your phone (unlimited texts free evening/weekend, all that other jazz) I have for my iphone(perhaps my plan is different than Angelus).

Honestly, when you try to trash something it really helps if you've spent some time using said item... not making baseless arguments based on your one sided personal opinions.

I never said I had the same exact apps. I said I have something similar. Sorry, no - I can't spend a grand or whatever on the I'm rich app.
There's plenty of useful apps on an iphone but there's just as many stupid ones.

But if the battery life is that much superior then you're right - it probably is worth it. I just don't like the iphone in my opinion. I don't like AT&T as well.

The iPhone/iPod app store recently hit 55,000 applications. 55,000. The amount of variety is absolutely staggering, and as previously noted, as a result you can do damn near anything with your iPhone. THAT is the distinct advantage of its touchscreen-only design - instead of being constrained to awkwardly binding pre-existing physical keys, application developers can simply create and place buttons as needed. This is extremely attractive and has pulled in a LOT of developers (as evidenced by that app count).

Besides that, its UI is very slick and polished. It's very smooth and feels much more polished and modern.

Dumb/useless apps are going to come with popularity. It's a given.

For example, it would extremely stupid to claim that there are no dumb applications for Windows.

Yes, but apple has to APPROVE of every single app.

Well for Apple, it's kind of a "damned I do, damned if I don't" situation.

If they reject too many applications, people start beating down on them.
If they just let stuff through, people complain about that too.
