If they don't like the idea of eating raw meat, then start with something else. Try a sushi filled with tuna (like you'd make a tuna fish sandwich out of). That is what I give friends who don't like seaweed at first.

Where I come from raw fish isn't something rare. So I don't see anything awesome about sushi, long before I found sushi I was eating raw salmon an bread with butter and onions and other raw fish dishes. And they taste better even. What I love about sushi is wassabi... Best horseradish ever!

I prefer sashimi to sushi. Depending on what the fillings are, I like my raw fish as is without the rice - it unecessarily fills you up.

i lol'd to see you western people eating sushi while some of my western friends reject it so hard
i'm a japanese chef and everyday i ate a lot of sushi. and for my personal choice,the most expensive sushi of all is Edomae Sushi

I am proud to say that after holding back my gag reflex (go ahead and lol at me controlling my gag reflex), I can now enjoy raw fish. At some point it just clicked, now I am a sushi connoisseur.

I ate sushi yesterday and had the "Rainbow" Tuna and other raw meat/fish. Was pretty good. And ate other kinds of sushi also. $83 on sushi for 6 people. It costed us $63 then after tax and what not it went to $83.

I'm partial to the deep fried soft shell crab sushi or the tempura ones. Phili roll is always good too. You can't beat the traditional ones either.
I refuse to eat any Mackerel though, way to strong of a fish for me.
I can only eat so much sashimi before it starts to come back up. I think it has to do with the texture or something.

I love sushi not all of it though I don't like roe or mackerel but i love spicy tuna, eel,yellowfin tuna, bass, salmon, regular tuna, octopus, trout, and halibut. I also like doing quail egg shooters and oyster shooters. The only real fish I am afraid of trying is Fugu or Puffer.
What I also like about sushi is the restaruants I always sit at the bar so i can talk with the people around me and make friends with them I usually always tell the person prepairing the food to just suprise me and keep it coming.

There are other sushi restaurants around the RP metro as well (though they cost much more per dish), my favorites are Omakase, Sugi and Tachibana. The latter, Tachibana, is one of the best. It's like an izakaya, they have sochu and warm sake at stock and you can drink sake while eating sushi.
the best sushi in my town is tokyo sushi and the only other places that can best that are the ones down the hill so it kinda sucks cause "desert" sushi is never freash :( but at least i actually go to try japanese sushi...but im not trusting the mcdo there cause they had wasabi in my burger >.>

Sushi is what u stated except wasabi is verey bitter and spicy, and the fish, if murder is too much for you, is made of biochemicals you can find in rocks, plants, and water. Everything returns to the earth one way or another, how you return it to the earth is the only thing which changes. I prefer to pleasurably do that. Sushi combines the slick and savory softness of the fish, and combines it with the wholness mush and satisfaction of the rice. Then tucked away lies a bitter sweet kiss of wasabi, then if it appeals to you, flooded with the overwhelming pleasure of taste which is soy sause. That is what eating sushi is like.

When ever I go I always get a Salmon Skin Hand Roll with a raw Quail Egg. I am not picky about my fishes I just don't like Mackerel and Smelt Roe. I do however love Oyster, Yellow Fin, Trout, Unagi, Red Clams, then when I am not sure I tell the man preparing the dishes to just "surprise me"

I know this place doesn't serve much of the exquisite variety, but if I want to eat a lot of sushi without punishing my wallet, this is the place.
There are several sushi bars also scattered around the metropolitan areas in RP... though most of them do feature exquisite sushi toppings but are pricey per serving. I do frequent one such, "Tachibana", near my workplace.
