The right way and the wrong way

So I hear about it a lot in the irc if it's mentioned, or I hear about it in some other threads of -rep for wrong reasons, but I wanted to hear what everyone thought overall of a good reason to -rep or even +rep and then the wrong reason to -+rep If I rep someone, it's usually because they contributed something, such as a game, doujin, or whatever. I also usually rep if they make me Lol. If I -rep someone which isn't nearly as often it's usually because their comments are unnecessary. Trolling or flat out harassing a person I don't find should be go 'unpunished' so to speak. Though if I take the time to do that, I also take the time to report someone. But I've found that some people feel that my reasoning to -rep someone is a wrong reason to do it. But I think if someone +rep's a person just because they're friends or to back up a negative statement towards another user, I think that's a wrong way to +rep a person. The reason I feel that way is it promotes a bad image on Fakku that they encourage people disrespecting others. I also think -repping someone because you don't like them or their ideas is a wrong thing to do. And of course 'just for teh lulz' is a wrong reason to do it as well. I think +-repping just because your friends +-repped another person is also wrong, whether it's positive or negative rep. What do you guys think? Oh, and I by no means claim that I've never used the rep system wrong in the past. I can't think of where specifically if I had, but I'm sure I've done it for the wrong reasons before.

Honestly I don't really rep anyone. I rarely +rep and if I do had out on its only because what that person said or done was significant. As for -rep, I don't do that. I will let you know what's up instead but that's another rare thing for me which I think I’ve only done once.

Ever since my topic I've been mostly ignoring the reputation system. I've come to hate it because too many people get -repped for stupid things, and too many people get +repped just because they are popular and don't really contribute to Fakku at all.
