Vista or XP

Hello Fakkuers i was wandering, what are your opinions of vista and XP, which is better? i have been running vista on my new laptop...and well the only thing i think is going for it is the looks.....i dont really like it...so i think i may change back to XP...depending on your opinions

Aside from '95 some eons ago, all I've ever run on is XP, and it's yet to give me any real problems. Then again, I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world. I know how to use a PC, but that's about it.

No problems with Vista on my side. Been running it for awhile now.
What don't you like about it? The only thing that annoyed me was the UAC and that could be turned off.

well i dont like how it takes so much to run vista ultimate..i had to buy a £600 laptop to run is smoothly, if i had XP running it would be a lot faster! i also dont like that service pack 1 isnt even out yet, if i do switch back to XP i would only switch to vista if i updated to the service pack, also a lot of hardware has 'up to date' drivers but with vista its a whole diffrent story.....the things that i dont like about vista are only minor things, but XP has a lot more pro's the only thing i hate about XP is its looks...there horrible!! vista owns xp at looks

Windows XP is far better than vista. It uses less resources and can run so many more programs that vista cannot run. That glossy look that vista has eat up RAM like its free. I use windows XP with the classic look and all animations turned off to save memory( i only have 512mb).

Yeah, it does require alot more ram than XP. I don't have a problem with it though, running it with 3 Gigs of ram seems just fine to me. Oh a laptop....yeah...I wouldn't run vista on a laptop, unless it was a gaming laptop.

I personaly go for the DualBoot idea, so I can choose between perfomance + compatability or future proofing compatibility.

i am back on XP (on my laptop anyway) i got my power house of a desktop running vista now and have my laptop on duel boot with XP or ubuntu

I heard thier is gonna be aother new OS from microsoft in 2009 (of corse its gonna end up delayed) but it seemed no sence to buy vista when i like xp more. Its just until stuff comes out and if they ONLY work for vista i might switch.

It has MANY good ideas, like a sandbox OS, you work inside big walls. There is no way in or out. Not even Internet. That is handled externally. It's kinda like an OS running inside another security OS. But no-one can really say anything about it, as most of it is theoretical, and not many press releases have occurred.
Also: Direct X 10. This only comes into play if you're a gamer, but still. DX10.

For now vista sucks major ass, and until they make a few changes to it and add so better crap, it will remain shit. So the best thing to do is keep xp rather than vista.
And btw, its hard as hell to get rid of vista if you already have it...but you can do it

yes i realised vista was hard to get rid of....i actually had to do some registry editing and dive into system32....

There are some pros with Vista.
Firstly, in vista 64 bit you can use more than 3GB ram . In XP and vista32bit there's a limit at around 3gb RAM. So if you intend to use RAM-eating applications or games in the future, you're gonna need vista. Also, DirectX 10 only runs on vista.
But even though it enables you to use more RAM, it also eats more.
For a gamer, the only realistic option is to change to vista in the next couple of months. Along with a ´high-ghz dual/quad core CPU, and a DX10 Graphics card. :)

I don't understand why anyone would want vista for gaming. All games can run on XP and vista just eats up memory that you could be using for your games. There is absolutely no advantage for using Vista unless you need a program that doesn't run on XP (name one!). Updating an OS just for looks doesn't seem like a good enough reason to me. You could get so many different types of skins for XP if you so desire to waste your memory.

Gamers want the DX10. Although, if you wanted to wait you could. The "Vista Only" games have already been cracked and run on DX9/XP. But that's only if you pirate the games.

I say vista will get better. When XP first came out it wasn't all that cracked up to be either. But it got better with every update. I'm confident that Microsoft will pull threw. Otherwise The XP party will continue in full swing with some experimental Linux maybe.
