My mother influenced me on blues and jazz, my father on our folk music (Yodel, schlager.) and my older sister kept on brainwashing me with classic and musicals - and out of it evolved a viking and death metal fanatic. Good game, insanity.

Just one of many examples of the shit I had to listen to
Oh the Horror!!
I can't understand a word, but I think it sounds beautiful.
I wasn't forced into nothing, my parents wanted me to develop on my own.
First band I ever liked was Bad Religion, and soon after I started listening to E-Type, Gyllene Tider and other pop bands (E-Type is not pop). Now I listen to almost everything except techno, opera and pop, with a majority of metal.
Country, some classic and arena rock, and...cristian rock.
My dad was, at one time, head of music at church. A couple curches.
I don't listen to a lot of the same stuff I did when I was a kid now, aside from the classic rock-types.
I was brought up with classical music because like stereotypical Asians in the U.S., we had to play the violin or the piano. And the songs were all that pre-1800s stuff that barely anybody listens to anymore. But Beethoven, man, he kicked the house down with his music.
Blues was the shit, and still is the shit. It was made for the guitar.
for me it was biggie smalls, nas and the like around my father.
and around my mother it was rock(her boyfriends)
so at like 5 to 8 i liked rap, then 9 to 12 it was rock....
then when i hit 13 i stopped liking 1 or the other and started to like all of it lol
lol that's what happens when you're half black and half white lol
