What's the best DIE HARD movie?

I like the first and second one best, 3d not so much and 4th not at all

I was caught between choosing Die Hard or Die Hard 3 and chose the latter. IMO the 2nd was just awful and the 4th just arse-gravy with an elderly Willis looking sad (like the later Roger Moore as James Bond movies; too old to run, etc).

@ansan: It could be appropriately said that you could watch the DieHard series without the second movie or fourth since the first and third are contiunations. However, most people here agree that the second plunked while the fourth rocked.

I wouldn't say the 2nd sucked, but out of the 4 it's my least favorite. I had serious doubts back in '07 when I saw the trailer for the 4th. Think about it, it was made 12 years after the 3rd...TWELVE YEARS!!!!!!!

Now when that happens, usually the movies are fucking horrible. Example? Species 3 was made 7 years after the 2nd if I'm not mistaken, and it was goddamn horrible. Now true, DIE HARD 4 had a pretty big budget, but I'm sure all of us here have seen our fair share of crappy big bidget movies.


BUT thankfully, I was wrong. Although the 4th ain't the best for me, I thought it delivered. Entertaining sequel (and most likely finish) of the series.

Probably. The departure from the "Die Hard #" title format seems to suggest the end the series, the "Live Free or Die Hard". But I could be wrong since the third Die Hard was "Die Hard with a Vengeance" instead of "Die Hard 3", but at least the words "Die Hard" were placed first.

I finally redownloaded the Die Hard movies and plan on watching them soon sometime. This thread made me remember that I deleted the Die Hard series for extra room on my hard drive, and I have more space now.

We all know Hollywood and how desperate they are for money. If there's a fifth DIE HARD, I think we can all expect one thing: A son.

Son of the mask, Ace ventura 3...why not with DIE HARD? "Officer John Mcclane retires after all those years of service and in that time, raises both his daughter and his newborn son. Fast forward a good 20 years or so, Mcclane is dead and burried and his son takes his place to defend against whatever terrorist threat arises....."

My reaction: Face-fucking-palm. :roll:

I'd love to say that the DH4 reception wasn't good enough to warrant that kind of sequel, especially considering the recession and thus reduced risk-taking; but you know Hollywood...

As for the films, I'm pretty much the same as lazy. Rickman is a quality villain and DH1 is a piece of genius, but three was just so well thought out, the most entertaining, and it had SLJ. Pretty much the perfect action film.

The first one of course its super aswome the last one that came out was all right but the first one is a classic.

The first one. There is often some special feeling from the first movie in a movie series.

The first one, imo the first movie beats all others, cuz the first one made is always the best. then they just arnt the same.

Terminator 2? Aliens? Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back? The Godfather 2?

Those are indeed good examples, but I think the majority of the time in a series, the 2 just ain't as good. An example I can think of is Jurasik park trilogy, which I made another thread of :p, the first got like 90% of the votes.

Scary movie 1 was good, 2 was horrible. Final destination 1 was good, 2 was (again) horrible. These are just quick examples off the top of my mind.

Yeah im not gonna make the argument that the first movie isn't the best one most of the time, but it doesn't apply to all sequels.

I'll mention one (and perhaps the only) example where the sequels get only better: Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The Return of the King simply beats The Fellowship and The Two Towers out of the sky.
