Straight cheap rum, dark (usually) imported beer, or an unnamed whiskey. I broke up with the girl who was pouring that down my throat.
I'm also "underaged", but I seem to be more knowledgeable than other college kids. I was in academy with some serious beer guys, and inherited an extreme distaste for American beer. (spare the Boston Lager)
Mixes detract from the flavour and texture. The only acceptable one I've found is eggnog.
I'm looking to add absinthe to my little list, but the spirit is difficult to find legally. Even the knockoffs, with low wormwood content, are rare.
Absinthe isn't really great. Back when thujone-free absinthe became legal in the US a bunch of my sister's friend's decided to see if it was any good and I tried some if it. I don't know if making it thujone-free changes the taste much, but I didn't really like it, and I didn't notice any great difference in effect (thujone was always thought to cause any effects outside of alcohol in the drink, but recently it's been shown that the levels of thujone in absinthe are very low and most likely not enough to cause any real response). It is usually pretty potent, being typically around 120 proof, though.
Really, I think it's just a lot of hype about it.
And I don't know if it's in liquor stores around where I live now, but where I lived in Virginia it was common enough.
Lately I've been really enjoying rum a lot. But I always enjoy Irish whiskey and beer. And hard cider. It's made from apples, so it's good for you!
