Someone said that Macross Jets would be more feasable than Gundams. That is just not possible. The whole idea of a Transforming Robot is just not possible right now. I'll skip the specifics but all our hopes for Mechas and such would be possible in outer space or in a 0G situation.
Gravity and friction put just too much strain on a chassis. How do you think the joints would withstand a 5G or 6G preassure on a Valkyrie deciding to transform in midair? They would just break end of story. Anime is anime and we need to come to terms with that.
Also while browsing the thread I saw that someone replied to one of my comments by saying anti matter would be a great energy ressource.
As it stands we have trouble creating 1g of antimatter. It takes more than enough money to supply the necessary ressources for the research facilities and I don't see that barrier surpassed anytime soon.
I can see though Robots in space before mechas on earth. By the way some of you might know but Canada's Robot Arm is already a critical asset for many space missions. Especially in the assembly of the new Space station.
Anyways, while browsing I also saw that some people suggested Tanks and such. Yes I agree Tanks will always be a great example. HOWEVER we are talking about Mecha's here. Gundam's well known Guntank is probably the most feasible of all the mechas we've seen in the Gundam universe with the exception of the Gundam Ball and Oz's Pisces and Cancer. The three latter ones because one is a space pod and the other two are Ocean suits.
RX-75 Guntank
RB-79K Ball
OZ-08MMS Cancer
OZ-09MMS Pisces
