Would you be in a Relationship without Love?

These days a lot of people go out with people meaninglessly... For the person's looks or for sex or whatever... But I believe in falling in love and staying together forever.. Deep and True Love - So what do you believe?

I'm really old fashioned. I was never into the idea of having a girlfriend "just for a fling" even in high school. I don't want to bother wasting my time on a relationship if there isn't some kind of chemistry there. I mean, I'm a guy so of course sex is always jumbled in my mind somewhere, but I can honestly say it isn't the first thing that pops to mind when I think about being in a relationship with someone. Love is important, and I'm not going to bother with a relationship if there isn't at least a chance for something more serious than a friend-with-benefits.

If we were in a relationship where we help each other financially and if we could get along decently enough then I could be in a loveless relationship. Love's overrated and causes people to do some stupid shit.

A long term relationship? No.

You never know if there is going to be love in a relationship until you have been in it for a while. Once you've been in the relationship for a while, you know whether there is love or not; if there isn't, I'd just ship. But hell, I'm a romantic.

I dunno, its been a while since I've seen love, in a personal matter or with friends. I just see people tolerating eachother, and when people say that's love, I call them a retard.

But hey, I do believe love can be achieved, its just something you have to work toward. You need to know enough about someone to love them

I'm maybe more pragmatic than more than you but well.
If it's clearly stated that you'll not stay for ever with your "current" lover, or that it's just for sex (even if I'm not interested in personnaly), or just for a while, or anything like this, it'll be okay for me. Honesty is the higher value for me. If we're both honest with each other, then fine, go on for what you want.
Love can be something you build up with time, like said earlier. Giving time to time may be a good thing. If you don't spend too much, I guess.

Oh, by the way, this thread do belong to the Love and Romance section, no ? (Or maybe a similar one has already been made)

+rep for thinking the exact same thing. I'm an old-fashioned romantic, and a relationship without love is nothing more than sex/friends. I can't even imagine a relationship without love - it just doesn't work, hence the reason why marriages on a fling/passion always ends up in divorce. I'm as loyal as a guy can get. (with the exception of hentai)

Exactly. It really is no wonder the divorce rate is so high in the United States, I don't even want to fathom how many marriages aren't really based on love.

I agree with both of you, which is why I made this topic.. I was hoping people would agree. The divorce rate is high here (Ireland) too. I've been in relationships where I'm deeply in love.. I think she really loves me too, until the end when she leaves me simply because she doesn't love me. I also don't believe in saying you love somebody if you don't really really mean it, but it seems people do that to me.
I respect anybody that shares this type of view.

Same thing happened in my last relationship. We told each other we loved each other. I meant it, but obviously she didn't because she chose to break up with me on Valentine's Day (this was several years ago) and not two days later started going out with some other guy. Heh.

I wouldn't, but I have no noble and sublime reasons for it.
For me it boils down to two very mundane things:
1.) A relationship simply for the sake of sex or status is a waste of time. If our relationship was just about sex, might as well quit it and just jack off.
2.) Couldn't imagine a relationship with someone I don't fully trust. Mutual love provides that edge of trust.



I don't believe in people "staying together forever". I believe in people staying together for as long as it suits them, and if they one day happen to drift apart and find out they have nothing more to give to each other, it's perfectly alright if they break up.

Depends on the situation, but yes I could be in a relationship without love.

I couldn't but alot of people do because of attraction. The two are completely different though, attraction isn't a choice and is something that is spured on, but love is affection to the extreme and has to be built. Alot of people get into relationships because of attraction, only hoping that they eventually fall in love.
