Your life and Pokemon....

Ok. We were all alive when the Pokemon craze hit. I remember being in the 6th grade, and begging my ma to buy me Pokemon cards. I watched the TV show religiously, knew all the Poke raps and had Pokemon Red and Blue on my Gameboy. My main focus was the cards. Everyone in my school at that time traded and collected Pokemon cards. We battled for them, via Poke card battles, and gambled with them like they were money.

I used to take what I won and sell them to the kids at school. I was like a Pokemon drug dealer. Kids would come up to me requesting a card and I would procure them for them. I would even steal cards form Toys R' US which usually kept choice material like holofoil cards.

Then the Poke Trainers card hit. Then the holofoil Japanese cards. That is when I made my big money. I never really made of 20 bucks at one time but 20 bucks is a lot of cash for a 6th grader. I always bought Chinese food for lunch.

Anyway, what are your memories of Pokemon during its craze? Did you collect the card thinking they would be worth something in a few years, or were you a Poke dealer like me?

I remember when it all started... some kid brought them in for show and tell, we were all amazed and all wanted them, and before you knew it we all had them like, like an STD.

I remember lying and saying I had the game, and how I stole mistys charizard (I think my friends bought it as well, damn we were dumb!)

It died down after a year making way for yugioh though.

Me and my friends were big on the video games. With private tournaments and stuff... I was never into the card game, that place was reserved for M:TG.

I still have all of mine, i almost had all 150 originals, then i started selling a few, man that was a mistake.
I think i got up to the team rocket sets before i stopped.

Nigga please, back then I was renting out my cards at a dollar and hour. Sometimes, I would loan it when they're not even going to play with them for a day. I was hustlin' dat lettuce back in the day.

CHUMP CHANGE. MY ENTIRE CRIMINAL EMPIRE IS BASED ON STEALING POKEMON AND RESELLING THEM. I MEAN, FORCIBLY APPROPRIATING THEM AND MARKETING THEM FOR A CUTTHROAT PRICE.

I never really collected these cards but I did faithfully watch the show. =P

Looking back on it, it's not even that great. XD

Cards were too expensive here so no cards for me. I did have another thing though:

Fuck yeah, Pokemon pogs. Those things came with potato chips. And so I used to buy a crapload potato chips just to collect the goddamn things.
I believe mine were thrown away 2 years ago or so. It was a sad moment.

Btw I had like 200 of them. It was a healthy stack.

I was a card collector, but I never really played the card game itself. My cousin and I did once or twice, but I primarily just collected the cards.

I had a ton of the Pokemon games, and I got that Pokemon Stadium game for the N64 that I'd play all the time. I remember having Pokeball keychains too on my backpack. You could open them up and little pokemon would be inside them.

Knew (know, technically) the rules of the card game inside out, although I don't actually play.

Still a fan of the games. Die-hard to the point where I actually go to take part in the championships wherever they are. Yeah, competitively and everything.

Hated the anime though.

I watched the anime but I never played the game or collected the cards.

Watched the anime until around the middle of the third season, collected the cards until the 4th or 5th expansion... and I still play the new games when they come out. Not sure if I'm getting Heart Gold or Soul Silver yet though...

Too many memories to try to sort through, but I did everything - watched the show, played the card game, played the video games (though I didn't play much since it took me forever to even get a Gameboy).

My brother and I loved the show in middle school, but it came on after school started, so my brother would set the VCR to record it. Every weekday, our VCR recorded Pokemon. This was back when the first batch of episodes were all that was available. Before the WB bought the show and aired new episodes (the first of which was about Para or whatever).

One day, we all overslept and were late for school. We got dressed in a hurry and rushed out to the car, and right before we took off, my brother said that he forgot something and ran back inside. Guess what he forgot? To set the fucking VCR to tape Pokemon.

I remember pokemon, back in 1st grade, all the rage around elementary school. I remember my diabolical poliwrath and snorlax combo, good times, gooood times.

Oh my god, I remeber when it first came out. I went ballistic for anything Pokemon. Cards, games, gameboy color pouches, I even remmeber asking my parents for pokemon bedsheets xDDD And I even got the Hey You Pikachu! N64 combo pack lol

But those were good times... gooood times -w-

I was huge collector of cards until I got Charizard! Then I had one of those my life is complete moments and I stopped.

Im one of those kids who never had any special cards myself, best being like a Raichu or maybe a Machamp from that starter deck XD and even my mediocre cards were destroyed cause it went in the washing machine. Bad times.

Anyways, it got banned in our primary school cause ppl started gettin in arguemnents over em, paying insane amounts of money for em, stealing money off parents.. and the such lol. after that it just kinda lost its shine

I wasn't allowed Pokemon as a child because Pokemon are the devil.
