I was wondering if you think it's right for our government spend our taxes on abortion.

I believe that people should have a choice whether or not their tax dollars goes to companies that do abortions. If this was the case, the people want to support abortion can still support abortion, while the people who are against abortion don't have to.

some people might argue that planed parenthood also does counseling, which means they should be supported. To me, this argument would be similar to saying "this hunting store sells ilegal weapons, but because they sell safety manuals, it's ok". Pro-life people are not against counseling, however, they don't believe that this is enough to overlook the fact that they do abortions.

I would like this thread to be limited to the discussion of how the government should handle abortion, as we could get in endless debates on whether it's murder or not

I think the government should pay for abortion and other birth control methods. It's MUCH cheaper than paying for WIC, children's medicaid, and other such programs.

This. At the LEAST, birth control. I know now that women can get the pill via insurance (I think? This was a very recent thing) but why not let men get condoms?
Insurance pays for Viagra, for god's sake. How about a way to STOP guys from making children when they want to?

This question is not correct. I wish I could take back my "no" vote. The fact is, the governments pay for a lot.

If the government is willing to pay for religion, using every ones tax money, then yes they should pay for abortions. This isn't even considering the fact that pregnancy can be forced by rape, in which then you are promoting the victim paying $300+ for something they can not control.

I say stop with abortion. That violates human's most basic welfare, the right to live. To me, birth control program is much more human, cheaper, and easier to do.

I mean, if you don't want to have a child, why don't use condom or such? Because it will decrease the level of pleasure or something? To hell with that reason! This is human's life we're talking about! We can't just kill a baby that easily because you are not ready to be parents yet. At least take responsibility for it.

I don't know what are these people thinking, killing their own flesh and blood before it got born into the world yet. Now think, all of us were born into this world and were given a chance to live, right? Now what about those babies who were aborted? They also have a future, but they just simply rob it from them so cruelly, even before they were born.

Imagine it if it was you. Imagine that it is you who were aborted by your own parents, not given a chance to take a breath on this world. There's nothing you can do, you can't prevent it from happening as you were not even born yet. You won't have this chance to eat delicious food. You were not given the opportunity to meet others and make friends. You can't do anything while all of your possible future is robbed in front of you by the cruelest possible way.

Maybe some of you think "What the F is this guy talking?" or "It's none of your business, you asshole!" or something, but please, abortion is truly a violation to human rights. Now, why do we fuss all about human rights if we just agree to abortion? It's ironical, right?

Well, sorry for the long rants, I just want to speak up my mind. :)

Also think of too young teenagers, who had sex before they even had their period, cases in which condoms broke, and all those newborns who were given away or even thrown away, because of post-pregnancy depression, drugged parents...

And to the poll itself: If you collected money for all those abortions through donations, the costs would never be covered. If you collect the money through taxes, you cannot simply ask around if citizens want it or not, so a can pay and b not. If things went that way, you'd have to ask this for everything that is paid/supported by taxes, like the health system and social payments like out-of-work-benefits. This is just not how the system is able to work.

Imagine this a woman is raped by a random man or her own father(which has happened) and becomes pregnant so what should she do?

If you got aborted, you wouldn't care, because you wouldn't even know about about it.
Second, if this is the way you are going to look at things, why do you conveniently forget that you, and every one of us, has doomed millions of other unborn lives to oblivion by being born.

Also, as the poster above me mentions, there are plenty of reasons FOR abortion, and none (none that are particularly well/logically reasoned) against it. Besides, if the parent(s) are against abortion, the child will end up being born, and be possible sent to an orphanage, or, worse yet, live his first decade(s) of life being unwanted and unloved by his parents. I'd say it's better off being unborn in that case.

Also, i'm fairly sure there's not many rights an unborn baby enjoys to begin with. I don't know about all countries, but mine only allows the rights of inheritance since the moment of conception.

Also, human rights is a concept entirely created by humans, and not nature. They have been debated at great lengths, and the fact that there are still arguments about abortion indicates that a fetus has not been defined as "quite" human by it.

Also, I don't support abortion. This is because I know that there are many forms of over-the-counter birth control available; The most notable being: not having sex with someone you don't want to have babies with. Furthermore, since I am a reasonable being, cases in which the mother was raped, or her life is in danger because of the pregnancy yadayadayada, should be aborted if the mother so wills it. I.M.O.

I can sum this up in one question:
"If you didn't want kids, then why did you have unprotected sex?"

Even protected sex does not give a 100% guarantee.

Sadly, lots of women HAVE. And not all of them want a permanent reminder of one of the worst things in their lives.

Even if one becomes pregnant without rape, why should they be forced to carry to term (for just under a YEAR, mind you) a being they either cannot or do not want to support later on?

Agreed with gizgal, and on top of possibly not being able to support the child, that is putting unnecessary and unintended but inevitable stress on the life of this kid. Nobody wins.

Agreed. If it's gonna be tax money that pays for abortions, let it come from everyone's tax dollars. I'm anti-war and don't want my tax money to be spent on wars at all, but I don't have any control over where it goes once it's taken out of my paycheck. I'd rather put all my tax money towards Title IX and abortion funding, but that ain't happening, no sir.

Abortion is a medical procedure. That's all. Just like any other medical procedure, there are various good reasons (that many people have stated above) for undergoing it and we should not judge the choice that the parent/s and the doctors choose.

Okay, that is one case where the woman should be allowed to have an abortion. However, if the woman is being forced to carry the child to term like you said, she always put the child up for adoption if she can't/doesn't want to take care of the child once it's born.
