This happened to me just yesterday and holy crap was pretty scary in the initial moments of its happening.
I was with my dog(German Shepard named Boston)on my way back form Noata's house. I had just picked up my phone which was stolen by Noata's fios guy. The sun was setting and me and my canine companion were strolling down the middle of the street. I was getting a bad vibe as we walked down the street. Well stupid me just walked me and my dog down a dead end street. As we walked back down the street we were ambushed by a pack of dogs. I couldn't quit make out their breeds because of the limited light. They circled around Boston and I like they were hunting us. They could have been Coyotes because of the time of day and the fact that I've seen many in my neighborhood periodically.
I looked down at my dog who was crouched, snarling, and in full attack mode as I call it. His usual peaceful and all around wimpy attitude was taken and replaced by a beast full of rage. Instinct took over and I let go of the lead and lunged at the nearest one and to my amazement Boston did to. I punted the first away and Boston scared two others away. With only two left they became the hunted.
As they ran all I could here was a FF victor theme in my head. I had no injuries but I didn't know about my dog. He too was unscaved accept his nose which had its scab ripped off. I expected that seeing he has a continual scab that never goes away. The pack was scattered and my friend and I were left unscratched. The Anime Goddess must have been with us that fateful sunset.
I can only wonder as to what provoked that attack.?
Sadly no I didn't report it because they deserve to live their just as much as I do. I care for their lives more than the lives of humans. Land developers took their land and now they have to prey on house pets and vermin, garbage.
I'm an animal lover and I feel for all things furry(accept furries they can die, scaly, feathery and so on. I wish their was a way to coexist with them but sadly their isn't.
As for the attack I'm still confused. Coyotes are opportunistic hunters, and Me and my dog are larger than they are. Usually in coyote sightings they prey on house pets and very small children. It's possible the extreme starvation was the case, but you just never know.
Sadly no I didn't report it because they deserve to live their just as much as I do. I care for their lives more than the lives of humans. Land developers took their land and now they have to prey on house pets and vermin, garbage.

no offense, but that's a pretty fucked up view of life; the value of an animal life can't possibly sum up to a human life. (excluding pedos and rapist)

All life is equal in value, even pedos and rapists. I agree with York, they have the right to live, just as much as any human. Although, thinking logically, humans are more expendable, because we're overpopulated, overly-destructive, parasitic, and way too egotistical for our own good. No offense, but by saying that no animal's life is worth as much as a human's is a perfect example.
The situation York found himself in wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for man's desire to destroy for their own sake. The majority of our actions are shortsighted and, in the long run, detrimental to our very existence as a species. Global warming, destroying other species' natural habitats, over-eating, rapid development of technology, and the list goes on, these are all things that have and will continue to bring harm to mankind.
Humans are always quick to praise ourselves for our supposed "intelligence" and all the other things that we can do that other species can't, but the one thing we're the best at is fucking ourselves over.
Sorry for the rant, but humans suck. I know I'm human, unfortunately, but as awesome as I am, I'm limited by my humanity. Despite all that we may think, humans aren't a dominant species, we've just managed to delude ourselves into thinking that.

I completely agree, and don't have much to add to that. You share my thoughts on the subject.
I'm sorry but no matter how you try to reason it, man's (and women's) ability to use logic, reason and coherent though places the life of any human above that of an animal; who can only make use of instinct. It's seems your rant is more targeted at the lack of morality some humans can display but that's a different issue. It's not about the canines right to survive, it's about which species is stronger; survival of the fittest (as cliche as it is). Every dominant species since the beginning of time has always imposed their will on the lower life forms (see T-Rex), we aren't the first, we're just the best/worst at doing so. Had York not been the most intelligent creature on that day he would have deserved whatever fate he would have received (sorry York, I love you). I agree, our action are short sighted, we are only creating a bigger problem in the future; it's doesn't change the fact that we are the dominant species on this planet for the time being, and our lives count for more than the lives of any animal. What if it had been your child/sibling that was harmed? (sorry for the dramatics, but it helps validate the point) I'm not going to debate the stupidity of the human race, that's not what this issue is about.

One of my main is for this fact that people tend to forget.
6.5 billion of us and only thousands of them. They've been here in North America for about 1 million we've been here maybe a few thousand. Seriously who so you think deserves the land.
I always get ticked when some arrogant person says that its our land. My come-back is always "Oh so because your a sentient being with thumbs instantly give you the right to whatever you want."
\\ A good movie to watch about this is Pom-Poko made by Studio Ghibli.
Personally I find the lack of faith in the inherent power of humanity in this thread to be rather disgusting. There's a reason we're at the top of the food chain, folks; it's because we're the biggest, baddest, and most intelligent creatures that have ever walked the face of this planet. Yeah we've got our share of problems that most other species don't, but I prefer to think of the words of Optimus Prime when people like the Jesus start baaaawwwwwing about how humans are so horrible and we all deserve to die horrible horrible deaths:
"They are a young species. They have much to learn."

In ageeance. Not to sound to plain but their needs here to be a balance of opinion.
Nice adventure but if it was me those coyote or dogs would have been pulp thats why trouble never find it's way to me which can be quite a boring thing ... but still it proves that your dog accept you as it's mater and your a good master thats hard to come by and your Boston is one lucky dog anyway good work (-v-)b and your exploits reminds me of the relationship between Rinoa (the heroin from FF8) and her dog Angelo... limit break : select , Angelo Rush : select = WIN d(-v-)b

Then what is?
Well, if my child was carried off by coyotes or other wild animals into the night and eaten, I'd be emotionally distraught, but what can I do? I could go out and kill them, but what happened happened and I can't change that. I could say that I would or wouldn't do anything, but when it comes down to it, whether I would go out and seek revenge is just a heat of the moment reaction.
I'm not talking about the stupidity of the human race, I'm talking about its logic. All those things I mentioned were, at one point time or still are, supposedly logical human actions. The problem is that we are stupid and when we combine it with our ability to make "reasonable" decisions, they are, for the most part, anything but. We hold our logic with such high regard, but we very rarely use it to its fullest extent.
The fact that we are the stronger species is debatable. We can outwit other species, yes, but it doesn't mean we are stronger.
@Comartemis: I'm not "baaaawwwwwing about how humans are so horrible and we all deserve to die horrible horrible deaths." I'm saying that we suck and the population needs to be thinned out, by whatever means. What better way than for mother nature to kick us in the ass and let us know that we aren't as big and bad as we think we are?
Here are some instances of man's incredible ability to command respect from "weaker" species:
6.5 billion of us and only thousands of them. They've been here in North America for about 1 million we've been here maybe a few thousand. Seriously who so you think deserves the land.
it's ours; as the dominant species.

you're trying to argue that a species that can use logic (no matter how flawed) vs every other species that can't use it makes us? Stupid? I have nothing against you but most of your arguments are off point. The base fact of this matter is that no matter how flawed our logic is; we as intelligent (sorry, but we are) beings and as the dominant species of this planet have a higher value of life than any other creature. York proves my point for me: had York not been a man most likely he would have died, or at least been severely injured but his development level and intelligence are what set him apart. When I speak with someone that tells me "I would save the life of a dog over a human, i love animals" I feel like I should vomit, how can you have such little regard for your fellow human being? You don't get to judge their actions; you're not kira.

Alright, you disagree; you don't really make any mention of why though. The fact that our species has damaged the planet and done what we've done to other species clearly demonstrates our dominance over the rest of this planet. Don't misunderstand;i'm not a big fan of what we have done to this planet; I'm not sitting cheering on the people cutting down millions of trees and year or the guys clubbing baby seals, I simply know as the dominant species of this planet we can and will do whatever we want to it; it's up to us to regulate our own kind.
Sometimes, I wonder if animals truly act only on instinct. We do see animals hunting together, which may increase their success rate of obtaining food. At the same time, they do live together for protection, and maybe other reasons that science has yet to prove.
Come to think of it, humans are the "dominant species" only because there are other living things to support us. Trees provide us with oxygen while livestock are used as food.
