Communism

You know, I just finished a class on 20th Century World History. We talked about the fall of Communism before finals.
See the thing here is, short-term, it's all good, people get everything equally from their own country. But then comes the arms/space race; wheres that money come from? Pretty soon you're seeing less and less of your salary. Not to mention the upkeep of military, roads, towns, etc. By the end of the 1980s, Communist countries are pretty pissed off that they're once again poor. Not only that, but democracy keeps getting more and more money and even has that 'Space Shield.'
More stuff happens and Communism's old hat.

Short term: Everybody gets the same amount of everything; happy
Long term: With no global trade, money dries up; the people get pissed and revolt.

Where do you people come up with this material? Hi-la-rious.

Communism does not work in super-societies the size of modern nations (I quite agree with FPOD there, as stated in the previous 1,000 threads on this issue).

"Communism", i.e pre-marxist "communism" does work only in micro-societies (sectarian communities, tribal communities), and comes at a price. Primal foraging-based societies are often quite happily "communist", but it only works because they're small and have a specific habitat. Once that habitat changes, they die out. So long!
Moreover, the societal superstructure required for that to work is completely incompatible with large-scale super-societies the size of modern nations. Primal foraging-based societies expend up to eighty percent of their daytime activity on social bonding, without which the system would collapse. Completely infeasible at a larger scale.
This in turn implies that there will never be any higher level of technology, which in turn means means that...yeah. So long!, part 2.

This is how I see it ...when a govermental system in place they calculate the opportunity cost of having a communist nation say as in Russia versus a freemarket system ( or democratic) whichever fits your fancy.in lieu of this I feel Russiaa felt it was more economical to have such a system such as their centrally planned one. I just thought communism is a good Idea. Except it is impossible in real life, due to the true nature of humans. Greed, Pride, Lust, Fear, Paranoia. Those are the things that ruin a perfect world i.i and the worst part is... when people have power.. This is what tends to rule them.

Communism is a ideal theory, yet the theory cannot be apply to full use in the real life.

Communism is impossible because when there is equality, there is no motivation, thus no progress. At the same time if everyone gets paid the same, they become lazy bitches.

I'm sure it's been said in this thread already, but here's my two cents. Communism is fundamentally flawed. On pen and paper, it looks like the perfect type of c=society, everyone helping eachother, working to make a great nation. Yay for dreams.

Then there's the reality of communism. It takes away the drive to be better. When a person is informed they will make as much as the rest of the country no matter what they do, they have no drive todo anything big with their lives. I'm not going to sit here and say all doctors and lawyers, and people who go to school for long ass amounts of time all do it for the money, but a significant percent of them do. Half the reason I want to be a professional actor is the money. The fact is in a communistic society, we don't have to work hard, we're going to be the same as everyone else, so why the hell bother?

This is when the communistic government forces people to do more diverse jobs, "We don't have enough doctors, these people wil now study to becomes doctors because we need them." That's not how it should work. It becomes a semi-dictatorship over time because everyone is forced to do SOMETHING in particular. We will never move beyond the first stages of communism without everything going to hell in a handbasket. I have a friend who is totally into the idea of communism, and keeps trying to tell me that if Trotsky had taken over in Lenin's stead instead of Stalin, then the USSR would have been a fantastic and true communistic country. I keep telling him he doesn't know this, and that it isn't true, but he lieks to inform me, "Trotsky was Lenin's puil! He followed everything Lenin taught and lived by his teachings. Lenin himself was a great communist and followed Marx down to the letter, so yes it would have been." I then point out that Trotsky would be ain a dictatorial like position, negating the idea of communism, to which he replies "Well it's not like that, because all he'd be doing is overseeing the group that oversees everyone else." I nod, "Like a dictator." And the argument continues until he's red in the face and I'm rolling my eyes wondering when work will be finished.

Point is, Communism will never work. We've never had a communist country, and we never will.

Its wrong, the americans think its wrong,the iraqs thinks its wrong hell even hitler thinks its wrong.All those who opposed russia thinks its wrong.

Communism does work, but it's only meant for a short time and not a long run. After that time, usually people would get sick of it.

Communism is a great idea...in theory. The reason it wont work is us. Us greedy humans.

Communism can never work in reality due to human greed and incompitent leadership. People arent content with having what thier neighbor has, they want to show him up and have more. Its only natural that we act this way; because from an evolutionary standpoint, he who has most survives.

Dosent work, people try it, and they fail. China still has it, but have gone astray in order to preserve themselvs. The sucess of communism = the elimination of greedy humans. Impossible. Someone will want to be better than the next guy. When the balancce is ofset.... communism fails.

Communism is great on paper. So is a "quick and bloodless invasion of Iraq".

Everything gets fucked up between idea and application, and most of the time the thing that fucks it is the human tendency to find something exploitable and take advantage of it for the gain of one over the gain of many.

At least in capitalism we all know the score: some asshole screwed us over from day one. Communism does the same thing, they just lie to you about it.

I think we can ALL basically say that yes, communism is great on paper, but can't work in real life. Jesus, I said it, Capt. Body Odor said it, and the guy above me said it, and I'm guessing half the other posters said it. I think this goes without saying at this point, can we move on from that point?

Comunism that is run democraticly. if no one gets to hold a position of power for very long, and didn't have to worry about re-election, there would be less coruption. it would be like jury duty. one day you get a letter in the mail and it's your turn to be the govenor. all issues and laws are voted on by the people, not the officials. or something like that. whatever, i don't care, i'm an anarchist any way.

I suppose if you're talking about "on paper" then it's an amazing solution to the bullshit that governments love. However in real life it is a bad idea because of the human factor, you need to have people to run a nation and to get things to where they need to be.
