god and faith (important stuff people)

I'm Asatru (faith/loyal to the gods) and I believe in the Norse gods (Odin, Thor, Freya, Loki, Tyr, etc.). I wouldn't say that I'm religious since I don't do any of the rituals (except having a boar on January 1st to celebrate no Ragnarök this year/end of winter), but I do like to believe that those gods are there and that some day I may hopefully get to visit Asgard after I die. I also believe in reincarnation, however, which is not a belief of Asatru.

@Arizth: No to all of those except the cinnamon toast crunch one. I AM the reason why kids love it. (though that really raises more questions than it answers) Actually at one point my friend and I started our own sect of Discordianism. While I still belong to it (through rules lawyering involving hotdog buns it's impossible to leave) my beliefs are at this point of a more serious and philosophical nature than standard Discordianism. You should be able to find the "religious text" somewhere if you found that article on wiki.

I agree, and I guess that is what I was trying to say, but I'm a bit ADD and branch off into different topics easily. But back on topic, let's say one group of people believe the sky is green and another believe the sky is red. Now, let's say a green guy starts telling firm red-sky people that the sky is green, in hopes of spreading "the truth". The green guy continues by giving detailed reasons why the sky could never be red. If the red-sky people are firm on their position on red skies, then they will try to counter that. So yes, religious debates are usually circular. I think that one should believe what they want, but always keep an open mind.

the only religion based thing I'd ever belive in is karma...you just can't get around it, IMO ofcourse.

Hell, that's at least gotta be #5 on the top ten list of Religious Celebrations.

I used to believe in Karma but, I kept getting screwed all the time when I was doing good things like six months into my good "streak" then bam! I get hit with several crippling forms of bad luck. One notable incident is when I blew three times within a week (I take good care of my car BTW). So I got pissed and just didn't believe karma exists since the people who deserve bad karma always get away free.

... which is typical of the modern day mysticism. Who is dealing out these mythical bubbles of revenge if not a deity of some kind? And who determines what right and wrong is? A dog, for example, has no concept of right or wrong is, therefor, it would be intrinsically immune to karma. Or is the dog effected by the karma of man, as defined by us? Is killing another dog going to get the heavens all angry and send back karmic come uppons?

Just believing in something doesn't make it so. Look at how many people believe in psychics, yet theres a reward of some million dollars for anyone who can prove their ability and no one has ever won it ever.

At least with christianity, part of the religion is faith, and if you could ever prove god then you know that it isn't god (because then you wouldn't have your faith, Sam Adams babblefish for an example). Thats a solid defense.
