Greece is going down, where too?

Now if you've followed the news, you should know that since 2010, the EU has been pumping money by intravenous to Greece in an effort to save its failing economy.

As you know, they have failed. Current unemployment rate is 52% of the population, exports are at near zero, imports are inexistant. The government has been disbanded, reformed, and disbanded again, riots have been continuous since a few months ago, criminality has tripled.

There has also been the expected rise of extremist parties, should it be neonazies, communists, anarchists or other potentially violent groups. Some of these groups, more precisely the neonazi party of the Golden Dawn, which has obtained a non negligeable part of the parliament seats.

My question is this: where do you Fakkuer, think Greece is going considering its current state. And lets be more precise than "down the drain".

Of course, we could consider that no, Greece is going to come back in the game, that everything will be allright. Well, we won't. Because idealism just doesn't work in some cases. So we are just considering the types of downfall that Greece could meet.

Also, please tell us of the reasons why you think this would happen.

I personally think that one of the extremist parties will take power and Greece will become a military state. I think this because of its nazi antecedents and also because of the support that these parties receive from the population. If these parties are elected into power, the EU will not intervene, and thus they will linger in an unstable state for the most of the next 10 years, until order is restored. Maybe.


Also, just an idea: This might well be the start of our failure to pass from Type 0 Civilization to a type 1 civilization. Because Greece might drag down Spain, which will drag in Portugal, which means you've got the whole EU economy going bonkers. Just an idea. Here's the thread:Thread

I would say war and depression but part of europe might invade iust to sought shit out, hell america probably would invade for the fun of it. Also war could see the change of how europe governs itself and its economy.

Edit: Though greece is going down the tubes, if you look at the world at a global level most countries seem like they have been hit with the silly stick. It seems America elected Obama because he is black, Australia doesn't have a leader who knows anything, Europe economy is failing. Basically something needs to change.

Aaaah, could you please serve us some facts to support your argument? Conspiracy theories are a bit like bananas at a barbecue: unsatisfying. Exept when they involve aliens and gods of destruction, but that is another subject.

No, I doubt America would set foot in a European country to fix the situation. The only thing America would do is provide aid/money to the Greece and allow Europe to handle its problem. Do you really think the American people would like it if Obama was focusing on helping Greece when America is shit right now and he is trying to win an election?

Coverage has been severely lacking since I got back to the states, but:

First, the Greek government is going down, and it will be violent.
Whether the violence is restricted to one interest group, or spread throughout the country depends on the results for the elections between now and the final crash.
If one movement can work out full control of the military, targets are going to narrow down until they reach real "enemies of the state."
If they take too long, I could actually see the riots continuing for the next ten or fifteen years. The elites will continue to hold on, but the Greek people are too fed up to take the regular distractions.

The resolution of this conflict will be a great subject of study, for revolutionaries and authoritarians alike.

Like I already stated, I have little to no basis on my statement, and that's precisely why I just call it my own conspiracy theory.

Riots for ten to fifteen years? Wow, is there a precedent to that? It seems a bit unrealistic. Anarchy for fifteen years, yes, that is probable, it is conceivable considering the situation.
And yes, I'm sure this will be a great subject of study in 50 years.

Every word that comes out of my mouth is exaggerated, but this may end up truer any of us could see. The scale of the latest drug war, in Mexico, seems impossible before doing the research. I would think that prolonged social unrest is equally plausible.

But fifteen years? Fifteen years of people in the streets protesting, fighting against their government, because they are unhappy? Fifteen years? If achild is born at the start of the conflict, in the vent he survives it, he'll be fifteen when it ends?

It just seems...enormous.

But yes I understand. There is bound to be riots for a certain period of time. A year maybe.

And talking about the USA, I agree that they won't meddle. But other EU countries might, like Russia, for example. I'm sure they'd like to integrate Greece into its "sovereign" territories, just like Ukraine was in the 1980's.

What now I've followed on the subject from Finnish news network, it seems fairly inevitable on Greece's account. Regardless of the amount of loan money given to the nation, it seemingly didn't get enough big of a economic boost to get back on it's feet.

These loan payments also done by EU has been felt in smaller countries, like Finland for example.. most of our folk here are against the payments right now, since the savings have been done in nearly all regions of the nation. Defense budget, social sector budget and so forth..

I'm more worried about countries like Spain and Italy. Both have shown fairly bad signs of their internal economic balance and signs of a collapse.

But on what'll happen to Greece, I can only guess.. Most likely the nation will just break apart completely to smaller sized nations. Size will most likely vary on the main political alignments in the biggest cities, which'll most likely still remain as main domestic trade hubs.

To answer your conundrum, I will tell you this: Zeus and his Pantheon was worshipped in Greece assuredly, the thing is he was worshipped 2500 years ago. So he doesn't have much of an influence today. Polytheism has mostly died out in Greece.
Also, no, there will not be another Conny, as you say, or at least it is very unlikely that there will be one, for the simple fact that this is a country falling towards chaos, not a country in chaos. Also, you must consider its neighbors. Do you really think the EU will let a Conny rise at their doorstep? The probability is infinitesimal.



Ah yes, an interesting point of view. Greece could break up into smaller countries, possibly its old regions, a bit like the USSR shattered after the cold war.

I agree with your worries about Spain and Italy, and if I may add, Portugal as well is on the brink. The failing economy of Spain caused by its inefficient copping methods, I would quote the "ghost cities" link, could well drag Portugal down with it. Italy is also flailing wildly.

I get the feeling what we're seeing in Greece will quickly spread to other countries... The whole world (Except for Cuba) is on the brink of collapse.

Sadly thats the impression I'm getting. Question is, how long do we have? Its been years since the crisis has started. When will we reach the peak. Because thats the key to it all. If we can pass the peak, and survive the rest, then we will be ok. But maybe we can't.

The answer is to stock up on gold, silver, and guns to protect it! The wild west will be returning to America soon, and you need to protect the money when even the politicians become dirt-poor! ;)

That, or we become farmers and go back to the old days where chickens and livestock were money!

That idea is one to hold on to. What if the economical collapse led to a reboot of the last four hundred years of human technological and societal advance?

Going back to the 17th century, we would indeed have to start anew, recreate everything, with scarcer ressources. What we must protect is knowledge. If that survives, we may have a chance of continuing in that case. But that is an entirely other subject.

Well what we need to realize about the world is that the reason we are in this economic collapse is because we were spending out of our means with currency backed by basically nothing!

Now, I know there are people who say a little bit of debt is good. I haven't researched that enough to criticize the idea, but what we have today in the world is not a "little" bit of debt. Instead what we have is the realization that our currency is backed by nothing BUT debt!

Not entirely true, as our currencies around the world are still based on mountains of gold in our national treasuries.

But I get your point. There is so much debt that its like nothing elese exists anywhere in the economy of the world.

I think only the nordic countries aren't in debt, or at least not as much as the EU, the USA or any other "importantly economically involved country". Not that nordic countries aren't involved, but they aren't on the front lines per se.
