How do you define the term "virgin"?

Not all virgins are created equal. Obviously, vaginal penetration is a black and white issue, but everything else is in the gray. Is a girl still a virgin if she's given a hand job before? What about blow jobs, anal sex, tit fucking (paizuri), etc.? Do toys count or does it have to be the real deal? How about on the receiving end- do fingering or oral disqualify her? What about masturbation?
The issue has come up in conversation with friends a few times and I'm always surprised at the variety of their opinions. Personally, my rule is if you penetrate, you're out of the running. Fingers, toys, penis- except for masturbation, it all counts. I don't think hand jobs and tit fucking should count since they're external, but blow jobs are my exception to the rule. They're penetration but not enough to fully do away with the "virgin" moniker.

Masturbation, be it with toys or without, is fine - but if it's sexual experience with another person I wouldn't call it virginity anymore, no matter what kind (Titfuck, anal, ...) of sex.

Girls it gets muddled for me. I think it depends on your sexual orientation.
If she's straight she loses her virginity to whomever penetrates her. (toys don't count)
If she's a lesbian then she loses it if she is penetrated by a strap on or similar toy since ladies don't come equipped with the required gear.

Have to go with penetrating the vagina. It's the "killzone". Remember the whole point of you having sexual organs is to reproduce. If your not using your tool for that purpose, it's not really sex. I mean there is lots of other stuff you can do with. I mean you could play golf with a malet, but that doesn't mean it was intended for that. In fact you could go as far and say that vaginal penetration while wearing a condom isn't really sex because your not intending to impregnant. All your doing is fucking around. :)

That's an interesting concept. Do you mean they have to experience an orgasm first or do they have to become sexually proficient? Or is it as simple as knowing how to insert organ A into organ B and which organs?

I believe your virginity is merely defined as whether or not you have penetrated a woman with your genitalia as a man, or been penetrated by a man's genitalia as a woman. Pretty straightforward, I guess.

When I first started out in my knowledge of sex, someone told me that the hymen of a female's vagina is prove of her virginity and ever since then, that notion has been stuck in my mind. However, the above definition may not be accurate because there are many other reasons why a hymen may break, perhaps due to vigorious sports.
At the same time, if a male penetrates a female's genitalia, but does not break the latter's hymen, it could indicate that the female is still a virgin if the above definition is used. What then of the male? Is he still a virgin? The "equation" does not appear to balance out.

If he doesn't break it, I would imagine she's lost it already. And I define penetration as just that--penetration. It's more like prodding if you're not going in far enough to break the membrane.

For me, mostly because I consider myself a realist person, I would say that the moment a girl's hymen brokes would be the point where she lost her "virginity". I am kinda into biology so I guess that is the reason why I look at it this way. As for other people, among them my secondary-school biology theacher says that any kind of sexual activity with others or with self would be the loss of virginity. In my point of view other than vaginal intercourse would count towards technical virginity (like oral-, anal sex, masturabtion, or the knowledge of the whole process).

Actually, a woman's hymen is not an accurate measure of her sexual experience. Remnants of it can remain until childbirth. In addition, most virgin females tear their hymens by age 18 or so without aid of penetration.

Proficiency, but in a lenient sense.
Basically, A into B, a basic position, like missionary, and holding on for longer then a minute is how I define "Sex 101"
Pass that, and you're not a virgin.
