Human augmentation

When we get to a point were we can safely augment the human body, should we allow it, restrict it or ban it all together. To clarify, I don't mean plastic surgery or prostheses, but bio-mechanics. Such as a robotic leg or putting a x-ray eye in someone. (even though that would be sweet!)

I would love to have advanced ears and language recognition implanted in me.

Maybe a machine gun in my hand too...

As long as it helps improve the lives of people with a disability, for them to be able to live normally. Like someone who is missing a leg, or someone blind. I'm all for it.

This. Also I hope anything made has 0 wireless connection capability. I couldnt imagine having my arm or something turn on me at the hands of a hacker.

Also if I could upload the contents of my brain into a computer and live in a robotic body after this biological one wears out that would be sweet too.

Depends on shit.. if you were in a accident and lost your arm, eyes, heart ect ect then sure but if your a healthy person.. why would you. Our society is already fucking augmented from free access to plastic surgery and pills for your sorrow and pain. Our society put's more value in the bubblegum blond with the tits of a goddess and the ass of a rap whore, then the brains and personally of a woman and vice versa on men... big dicks and a 8 pac.

I can understand some thing about this.. i would like a new liver and pancreas so i would die in 10 years but that the thing.. i need it to live... you don't need to be the major(even though she has nice... cybernetic implants) or Steve Austin the 6 million man. And there the privacy and augmen thing of someone will be more superior then another and can hack your brain case or just watch you naked i the shower.. x ray eyes.

I also wonder if people would bring up the whole "playing god" idea if we allowed it. How far would people go to sacrifice their own humanity?

Sadly, this isn't how the world works. Libertarians aren't the majority, and you can bet your genitalia on there being strict limitations set on body augmentation by the governments around the world.

Personally, however, I believe in that idea. "Live and let live" is one of my maxims.

I'd want all lessons to be uploaded to my brain. More time for play, less time for study.

If ever used in war, it would cause to many problems, and lead any state to death.

I could only ever agree with it being used for poeple who've lost body parts out of no choice of thier own. By that I mean someone who lost a part, though doing stupid shit, is out of luck. But someone who had been attacked, shot, what-have-you, should be given the choice with augments.

another thing is that Bio-mechanics is that Prosthese can do it just as well. with less rescources too, Its just about techinology and using the brain with machine.

And maybe tails- cause if i had a tail my life would be a 10000 times easier. There will no longer exist a place on your body that you cant scratch yourself, i can hang upside down from tree branches, hold my paint brushes with my FUCKING TAIL- so many other things too!!!! its natural for humans to want to mod their own bodies(the way they do with everything else). ppl have been doing it for ever and there is no reason that we should stop! and if we kill ourselves accidentally then....that would be it- naturally the fall of civilization.....i dont really care about it to be honest

I am for allowing human augmentation. I understand that it is a bag full of trouble, but it has potential to help many people and improve our lifestyles. What I'm afraid of is certain people abusing this technology. Giving them powerful toy to play with usually isn't a good idea. Anyway, I see human augmentation as the next logical step in our evolution, whether it is the right choice or not. I'd love to see the age where human augmentation is common.

Many folks already have artificial body parts like organs and limbs.

But that two different things since they needed a leg or arm and it bearly functions.. plus their no artificial organs yet.. they created a heart but it doesn't work pass 18 months. The closes we have in the artificial body parts are prosthesis and lab maded and natural reclaimed parts like values and ears, the physical shape not the functioning ones.

The concepts in Ghost in the Shell are pretty awesome. I'd really like to have FMA type augmentation. Automail. Metal as to be more durable. Built in blades would be nice too.

Who's going to pay for it? I don't think my insurance covers that.

They're also heavy maintenance the things the anime doesn't show you is Ed having to keep his Automail well oiled and tuned.
It's also pretty obvious in Dx:HR that people need to visit the LIMB clinics on a regular basis to keep their augs working not to mention having to take anti rejection drugs.
He'd kill for nano-tech augmentation you see in Dx and Dx:IW.
