I haven't read everyone's post, so if mine sounds the same as another, forgive me.
My beliefs on the 'Seven Deadly Sins' are twofold. Part is the Religious side, the other is the animistic side that we doubt we have.
This is my (religious) view of the Seven Deadly Sins. I think that God gave us these, not as sin, but for our own survival, yet they changed when Adam and Eve ate the apples. Now many might say that I'm wrong because they are 'Deadly Sins' not necessary components to life, but here's my reasoning, sin by sin.
Greed- Greed is to want something for oneself, and even God is greedy in a sense. He want's us to return to him instead of falling into the clutches of the Devil. Sure, it's because we are of his creation, but at the same time, it's greedy that he doesn't want to share (please don't start the good vs evil thing with this)
Lust- Although the popular belief of lust is that it is bad, lust is actually a component of love, just this one deals more with physical pleasure than mental. If man did not lust, child birth could not happen (I don't mean that in the sense of today, I'm speaking in broad terms.) Why? When we lust for a person, it spurs arousal into action, and from that, we get kids (flawed i know, but it's logical when you think on it.) Also, I don't think it's possible to get someone pregnant with a limp penis. If it is, I haven't heard of it.
Envy- Envy is a stronger form of Greed, that I believe came later as Greed sets in. All Envy is, is the wanting for something more than what you have.
Sloth- Sloth came from wanting to rest more so we can conserve more energy for work. God gave us the ability to rest so we can get more done with our lives and so we may glorify his name in doing so.
Gluttony- Gluttony is hunger. That's the most simple way to put it. We eventually get tired of what we have and get 'hungry' for more, and it's not just in terms of food either. We hunger for money, fame, power, video games, etc. We need to 'want' or 'hunger' if we seek entrance into heaven. If we didn't want to follow gods rules, what would be the point of creating life and giving us a reward for being good? Take your pick.
Pride- To take pride in one's looks is to show that you care for your body and your surrounds so that you become a better person.
Wrath- In all honesty, I think wrath is the youngest of the Deadly Sins. My reason being is that Wrath was never around until God showed his to Adam, Eve, and the serpent (the devil.) Wrath isn't only anger, it's also disappointment towards something or someone. Do parents show their wrath when they punish their children, or does the state show the wrath of the law when someone breaks a law?
I'll add the other part of it when I finish finding good standing on it
