If time machines existed

After watching some videos online and reading articles about time, space, etc., I wondered what if time machines were/will be built?

~Time machines can only be built if Destiny or Fate is true. Because, if it is true then life will be just like a movie that all the events are previously taped from the intro to the credits. and will just be played. and this will only mean that we are not doing our free will and we are just following a script.

~If time machines will be built, then why isn't there anybody from the future come and pay us a visit? Or are they just not telling us?

If there was one, it wont be just anybody and for no serious reason. I dont think that person would be broadcasting this to the world, s/hed either be mocked or be sent to an insane asylum. I say only important people would be likely to have the opportunity in meeting them, not normal folks like us.

I have heard something to the effect of, "The universe conspires to prevent paradoxes from occurring." Setting all implications that the universe has some sort of "conscience" aside, that's an interesting thought.

I have also heard that if time travel existed for us, we wouldn't be able to interact with the past, observe it, maybe, but not interact.

I don't know enough about the science behind the subject to drop over one side of the fence.

I do have to take exception to the idea that the existence of time machines implies the existence of fate. Sure, if time rewinded a few second, we'd almost certainly do the same thing, since all the conditions are the same as before (and determinism isn't complete bullshit either). If time travelers were to interact with the past, that would change the conditions, throwing fate out the window.

True! Well, if I told you that I came from the year 9999 you'll just laugh/ignore me. xD even if i was telling teh truth.





So there IS an existing time machine? Like photos, video tapes.. etc. =D anyway, What if the person from the future is really intended to use the time machine and go 'mess' with the future but in truth he's not messing it? lol

Well, seriously, I think the most that can be possible is to slow time for a specific area and things within and let everything/everyone outside move on at normal speed. Its not technically time travel but...

There was even this idea that time as we know it seems to be actually slowing down. That in the past a second can actually span for years to hundreds or thousands of years. I dont remember the specifics but all I remember was it had something to do with vacuums.

I saw this discussion from googling TIME and VACUUM. The question is, is there no time in vacuum. Consulting my stock knowledge, I defined vacuum as an airless, weightless space. And I believe that there is time inside a vacuum. If your in a vacuum, you will feel that there is time, because you'll only last for 3 minutes you can consult your wristwatch too if you happen to have one while being in a vacuum xD.

I have a much harder time lending credibility to the notion that someone can travel to a time that hasn't happened yet.

Hmm... yeah ur right, so it means that there is no future? only the past and the present? that only the present can go to the past? and mess up the future of the present? =O

I guess it is interesting what the person was asking, about the absence of certain elements in computing for the value of time.

Well, if I find what i was thinking of earlier here on the web ill post it here. It was just something a senior tech of mine back then was telling me. I think I remember the other part, its speed of light and vacuum. I wonder if its true hihihi

anyway, I also read and heard about the thing Einstein said. That if you can travel with the speed of light, then you can go to the future. But you cannot go back. I think if you can go that Fast all you can do is to 'pause' time, cause for you, 1sec is like forever. o.o

I don't know, all I said is that I have a hard time believing that it's possible. If I can imagine a possibility for traveling to the future while the traveler doesn't age, I'd say there are two:

First, he get frozen. As risky as that is, it's possible that you'll survive.

Second, make it so that the traveler somehow exists outside of time, so when the future comes, he'll magically exist in the flow of time again, and the trip for him should happen at the blink of an eye. That instantly raises the question, well how the fuck are you going to accomplish that?

I once heard of a man that said he was from the future... and he predicted minor events to prove that. His predictions came true. It was a few years back that I have last read that story, I think I'm gonna go dig that one up.

Also, obvious answer: Go back in time, kill Hitler. That would surely mess up the current state of things a lot, but wth.

that's also why i am in doubt that time machine wont exist. noone ever killed hitler in the past. =O or maybe he was poisoned and not died by suicide? xD

Alternate realities?

We live in a possible reality in which Hitler has NOT been killed.

Maybe killing him would make things worse and thus he was not killed?

maybe? that's also possible. but if alternate realities exists, then there will be billions of other realities, coz 1 future = 1 brainwave pulse signal.

Anyway, if there is a condition where in time slows down or goes faster, and you can contain and recreate this condition then, in effect, you can achieve time travel

Now for a human to survive such a thing, I would say a container that will allow this human to do survive this would be necessary - especially if extreme velocities will be involved in the equation...

There are other ideas going around out there, like stuff related to astronauts and space. You can look more into those too.

As for would it be better to change the past, why... if we take away all the horror from the past and just leave the happy times and peace and all, what kind of society would we have now; I think all the hardship that humanity has gone through is what toughens it and prepares it for the far worse things to come in the future and will enable us to survive through them.

Sweet, I just got an e-mail from my physics professor on this topic:

"There are a couple of possible ways to travel back in time but they might not work. One way would be if we could go faster than the speed of light. Except this would take infinite energy. People have theorized about "tachyons", which are particles that travel faster than the speed of light. The trick is that right from the start they were already traveling faster than the speed of light so they never needed infinite energy to accelerate them to that speed. If tachyons actually exist (no one has ever seen them) and we could somehow use tachyons to store the data in our mind, then once in that form we would travel back in time. A lot of ifs which probably won't pan out.

Another way is by using a wormhole. We don't know if wormholes exist and according to general relativity a wormhole requires negative mass objects to prevent it from collapsing. Negative mass?! Probably doesn't exist. But let's suppose we had a wormhole, and let's suppose it's stable enough not to collapse before we can traverse it. Suppose we take one mouth of the wormhole and move it around at close to the speed of light. According to relativity, less time will pass by for that mouth than for the other one which is static. So if we do this for long enough, we can end up with a wormhole where we could travel to the past by going through the wormhole-- into the static mouth and out of the one that we had been moving. The limitation is that we cannot use the wormhole to travel back to times before we actually constructed it.

Now, suppose someone travels back through time in a wormhole and then kills his grandparents before his parents were even born. In other words, we have a paradox. Does the universe protect itself against paradoxes, or maybe when we travel back in time we are actually entering a different universe? Such talk is getting pretty nutty. But there is a simple resolution without invoking more universes. Since you exist in the first place, you obviously didn't kill your grandparents thereby preventing your birth. So if you travel back through time and attempt to do them in, then you will fail-- for one reason or another. Just like if you try to fly by flapping your arms, you will fail. How do you know that you will fail? Because your grandparents lived to give birth to your parents in the past which has already happened, so whatever your future self did in the past didn't end up killing your grandparents. One can refer to this as the universe keeping us from creating paradoxes but it really is just cause and effect."
