See fodder, while all of that is true to an extent you left out one key part. Bus is the president with Veto rights. He could have thrown it out with the flick of a wrist (I mean that literly.). As for the nazi's policies I will go on record of saying this and it may come back and bite me in the as but that is fine. They were some of the most politically intelligent people and they had great idea's on health care and government, but totally bad morals and execution.
We are not trying to make this a Red vs Blue debate, but simply seeing if many people agree with the immigration bill that is trying to be passed at the moment. Nothing more nothing less.
Also, if you want to bring up Iraq, I have a couple of friends who have been and come back, one that also died there. Yes it is different from what they show on the media, but is it better? From what I have heard from them and read in letters, I doubt it.
Lets not forget that Congress can throw out the Veto, unless Bush "pigeon holes" it, meaning he takes the bill and hides it and acts ignorant about it, but seeing as how much the citizens of this country have come to know about it, it's far too late for that. I have mixed feelings about it. While I'm all for people having a better life and I'm tired of seeing my countrymen with such humiliating lives. Though I do think background checks are crucial to those from countries hostile to the US. Plus I'm more for getting things done the legal way, though what would you do if you had sick or impoverished family members and had a choice of paying hundred of dollars and months of waiting to be allowed to come in legally, not to mention time to look for a job and enough time to get paid?
Though one of you earlier stated that if a country is under a dictatorship of sorts, What they really can do is claim Refuge, which could grant them entry sooner. Many Jews from the pre, circa, and post WW2 era emigrated into many different countries. even south America. Ever hear of "Sabado Gigante", a spanish variety, comedy sketch and game show aired in Miami?
The host, Don Francisco, is a Chilean born to Jewish Refugees who escaped to South America to flee Nazi Germany.
i don't have as much time to touch on this subject as I would like to, but It seems to me like Congress and the democrats want attention. What happened to the war on terrorism? what about the war on poverty? Deal on REAL issues to improve this country. I say that instead of paying $5000, those of age should be put into an obligatory military service. It pays well and takes care of families, but at the same time, they would be doing this country a service. As much as an Honor I saw it as. And don't let all your friends talk fool you(I know ppl in my age range would say its fascist or it sucks because well, thats how young people are. I've served since I turned 18. ), it's a regular job, and it really has great benefits. I'm just proposing an Idea I came up with while talking about this with a coworker.
On the other hand, I think why some people come in illegally and refuse citizenship thing is because of their pride of their home country. I speak from first hand experience. I came in at around 2 years old, but I declined becoming naturalized because of my pride. Sure it bit me in the ass by not letting me get into a job that required a higher security level, but being in is being in. I get paid, I saved a lot of money and I blew most of it. lol. I love this country and I love my own the same. Its a hard choice to make, but its all based on what you want for yourself and your family. This is my home and it always has been, I wouldn't like to be kicked out either. Currently working on my citizenship now, being processed. now i just have to wait. I didnt do it because of the bill, I did it so I could stay in service longer.
One thing about illegal aliens as well, not all of them come from the southern border. What about those European, Carribean, Asian and African immigrants who overstay, are trafficked (smuggled), or sneak in through other means?
Sure seeking refuge is a credible excuse, but with the time to investigate any evidence and background checks on a thin force of FBI agents who work on that no to mention the immense volume of aliens coming into one country with so much open land that isn't monitored. The FBI, Military, Customs, Immigration services are spread thin, especially since the terror alerts started, plus adding this bill as well is going to put a strain on that.
but to touch more on my mixed feelings, They try to connect this with fighting terrorism, but do you really think that any one coming from the south would want their chances of getting into the US to become compromised by a terrorist posing as a mexican, for one, many of them dont wear deodorant, so thats one dead giveaway, less they've crossed the desert.
And about Taxes, many of them get paid under the table and that is untaxable. so if you dont get a real check from a real job, it wont get taxed. if they work anywhere at minimum wage, like say, Mcdonald's, they get taxed. So it's not like all of them dont pay taxes. Who pays taxes out of their own will? who would?
it's taken out of your pay, so its not like you can say they cant pay taxes. I don't recall sending money to the IRS, they take it out of my paycheck. so any legal paycheck gets taxes deducted. But it can get more complicated than that. I dont have as much information, but visitors and possibly migrant workers, wouldnt have to pay taxes for living in the US for a limited amount of time. But still any paycheck they get that doesnt come from a private financier, say...the farmer you work for, or restaurant owner, taking advantage of paying less for more, would be taxed. so that contradicts what they say about illegal aliens not paying taxes. The ones that should be punished for that are those who really abuse the system. Who wants to get paid 5 to 10 dollars a day for 8-16 hours of work just to not pay taxes? screw that mess, with say less than $100 dollars taken out of a $4-500 paycheck, which would you choose?
So you see, it's not the workers who don't pay taxes, It's those that pay them, Cash is untraceable and record books edited. Its those who commit tax evasion and they blame the workers. but I'm going to use this stupid analogy an an example; You're drug supplier is committing a felony by selling and possessing illegal substances, but you use them, would you rat on them and lose your supply? Hell no you wont.
basically, would you rat on your boss who pays you meager wages, though it's the only thing you can get? would you risk losing money to turn them in? to them it's a necessary evil. And it's necessary because those who work those jobs do backbreaking labor. Picking crops, manning convenient stores, dry cleaners, nail salons, house cleaners, dish washers, cooks, construction.
Every job we take for granted, Could you imagine the damage that would do to the economy? if they get deported, it comes to a screeching halt! Remember when there was that "day off" protest a year or two ago? and that was only those who knew about it. Imagine that on a nationwide scale! for weeks, months.
If they become legal, no only could they have a chance at a better life and education, but there would be an economic disaster (remember the slave reparations sketch on the Chappelle Show?). The inflation to make all those under the table jobs at minimum wage Thats at least $800 a month multiplied by thousands. Prices would go up, The farming economy could go bankrupt or Boom up. This has to go slowly to avoid inflation, it's going to take years, like the war on terror. It's not over once Saddam and Bin Laden are caught. They have supporters and financiers, loyalists and sympathizers.
as an example, you still have Kim Jung-Il, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and their supporters Al Qaeda, Abu Sayaf, PLO, Hamas, Hezbollah, Tamil Tigers. Who are being hostile toward the west and could definitely make a strike against the US and break out a world war. So you could see a tie in with all this immigration and terrorism stuff. plus not to mention that it's an easy cover up by changing the subject on Iraq and 9/11
Also the whole citizenship process can take years, who wants to go through that? A minimum of 2-3 years just as a Resident Alien plus getting your I-551 card, which costs somewhere between $200-500+, then a background check before or after, sometimes both, an investigation, paperwork, Money to process the paperwork (it's at $600+ now), any penalties you'd have to pay, updating your addresses each time so they can keep tabs on you, Making sure they update your address so they can keep tabs on you (they sent two appointment letters to my last addresses, luckily it was my friends house). Then it's wait time. not to mention time and cost of any commuting to the nearest INS office, the waiting time in said offices. It's a pain in the ass! luckily I was a kid when most of this happened.
shit i went on a rant again. lol
