Psychology Today, a respected U.S. journal
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... They're kidding, right? So funny. But if they're serious, this is sad.
Psychology Today is not even a peer-reviewed journal--it's a magazine. Many real psychologists look down on that magazine because it tends to sensationalize issues, plus it publishes a lot of bad science (e.g. Satoshi Kanazawa's bullshit).
Can a porn addiction cause problems? Yes, definitely. The author's science is correct on that point--porn can hijack the dopamine reward systems just like gambling or drugs. However, porn can also be part of a healthy sexual life when used in moderation.
I can't find the original article, so I don't know exactly how many people are affected by porn addiction. I find it very telling that none of the articles I've found give an exact number, or even an exact proportion of those affected by this. They throw out the number of total porn users, as if the normal porn users have anything to do with those who are addicted. It's just shoddy science and even shoddier journalism.
Edit:
Here's the
Psychology Today article mentioned. Notice that it doesn't cite sources either, whereas other articles in the magazine cite peer-reviewed journals.
