Firstly Im not sure if what you speak of is philosophy or ideology. I think the latter would better suit it personally but thats just me. What I believe is that a persons ideologies and philosophical beliefs are what create that persons identity and equilibrium with their surroundings. For this reason one could say that a human with a lack of personal beliefs could be behaviourally classified as a virus rather than a mammal. Mammals create an equilibrium with the world around them whilst viruses don't. Personally I find metaphysics to be the most interesting side of philosophy but what you speak of relates more to ethics and virtue. My personal ideologies about virtue involve a lot of emphasis on honour. That seems to be the best virtue to describe the action of denying ones pity in my opinion so this is in a way similar to what your friend thinks on that topic. In terms of my ethical beliefs I am essentially a negative utilitarian believing that the reduction of pain and suffering in this world (Not the increase of happiness like a normal utilitarian) is the key to ethical behaviour. Tell me more about your friend if you see this reply. She sounds interesting.

By having personal philosopy isn't wrong or waste, unless the philosopy itself too rigid and close-minded.
In modern times a narrow minded philosophical system is called a religion.
Precisely why I dont connsider shintoism or buddhism religions.

Well i have a kind of a philosofy because when i was young i was self victimising myself i came up with the ideea of finding all my weak points and strong point and using the weak points like the strong points.
An example should be the short memory with that i can keep some sectrets until they are needed or my clumsines can be used with a litle luck to find something in a messy bedroom or a bad eyesight can be modified to trace by color and movement .etc
Personal philosophies are worth keeping if they are productive or give you a set of principles that are beneficial for you.
My personal philosophy is
If your hands aren't dirty. You didn't accomplish anything
It reflects my respect for physical labor and craftsmanship. I respect welders, masons, mechanics, pipe fitters, etc more than a respect a pencil pusher in some air conditioned office. Why? Because that welder, mason, carpenter or pipe fitter has built more than that pencil pusher. The welder or mason is the reason that a building stands so the pencil pusher can do his job.
"Follow your emotions, logical or not just do what ever fancy you but always be ready for the consequences of your actions and do have the balls not to take the easy way out"
Your body is your own, it should be your own decision what to do with it:
Decide for yourself what substances you want in it, what food you want to eat, what kind of hair you want to have, what tattoos/piercings/scars you want to have.
Your mind is your own, let no one else control it:
Decide for yourself what kind of a life you want, what you want to do with your life, and how you want to explore your mind. Through dreams, through everyday life, through love or maybe even through psychedelic substances.
Think positive, even if the negative thinking seems more realistic:
Just think positively, if you don't succeed in something, just try again. If you still don't succeed, just try again.
If you still don't manage to succeed, move on and try again later.

My personal philosophy has always been to be a better person than family members of preceding generations. To be an overall good person, and to beat my brother at everything.
A person always has there own philosophy even if they dont know it. I dont think people really pic there true philosophies though. I think the life they have lived craftes there philosophys for them.
My philosophys on life are a little complicated and a bit on the cold side. I do have some simple ones though.
Never break a promise is one of my main ones. Im even famous in certain circles for always keeping them regardless of how ridiculous some of them are.
This is balanced by my second philosophy. never make a promise unless it is certain you can fullfill it.
My third is to take life, good or bad, with a smile. This has two porposes. The first is if you pretend to be cheeful that cheer can often become real even if you werent happy before. The second reason is it helps me keep a certain degree of emotional distance to prevent myself becoming two dependant on people.
My last one is to always keep a certain amount of emotional distantce between yourself and people. This has many functions. First it prevents me from making emotional desicions over logical ones (no emotional decision I have made has ended well). It also prevents you from being blinded by emotion (something that has cost me dearly in the past when I couldnt see what the people around me were really like).
I almost NEVER practice any of my philosophies, or when I do, they tend to lead to shortcomings...
Anyways, my biggest one is "The opportunity lost, is the future not seen." Basically missing a chance to do something, not because you could not make it, but because you chose not to, is robbing yourself of a possible future you could have had.
My second one is that, the TRUE god(s), is your parents. They had sex, waited nine months, and then you at the desk reading this thread (and if you took the time, comment)happened. We all came from two people and there is logic and fact behind that, because those two who gave birth to us saw our inception, and eventual birth. God didn't put me here, a man and a woman did.
