The 12/21/2012 Doomsday prophecy.

Before I start off, let me just clarify that this is not to argue whether this "prophecy" is real or not.

I raised this topic with hopes of knowing why this certain Doomsday prophecy has garnered the most attention out of all the others so far.

Before the 2012 prediction, there was Harold Camping's (failed) predictions, but it didn't seem to generate the same buzz such as this. So much of a buzz that it forced several people to go in preparation for the coming end.

The film "2012" might have cemented the legacy of this prediction, but it was already spreading before that. Even years before, as far as I know. And with three days left, some people are beginning to become restless.

It really doesn't, there's no proof of the prophecy coming true(it won't, logic dictates). I mean, why on one special day would everything go to shit? Because the Mayan Calender said so(it didn't even say so)

It isn't going to happen.

I wouldn't say this has gained more attention than the other predictions since some people don't really know what date is the correct date because of several dooms day predictions and hollywood films that have been inspired by the end of the world/society. However, doomsday predictions in general have gained attention because humans have a fascination with death/destruction events whether it's because of our curiosity or because of the tales in Bible describing the end.

I can tell you why. Is because people want to find a reason to live, and thinking that there is a divine judgement is a good reason to do so.

And specifying about Mayan predictions, there IS NOT A DOOMSDAY PREDICTION, is just a change in the cosmic cicle. Nothing is going to end, is just a new age.

Ok... The Mayan calender is different from our current one, when they predicted "the end of the world" they predicted it on their chalender, now ours.

This question is like saying what if you told a king that there would be a point in time where knights would not exist he would go crazy and probably kill you but the point is we dont know if and when so lets just go with the flow.

the mayan are a lost civilization, they didn't predict anything. If it were aztec,atlantis,.. idiots would still believe in it. Also 2012 is just the end of the mayan calender, it's like 12/31 in ours, they were to lazy to make a new one.

Its a Calender, when the calender runs out, you get a new one. The Mayan Calender cycles, it doesn't have a true end. The end having to do with the end of the calender is just something made up, and not even by the Mayans. The calender ends at a respectable date for nearly any calender, the winder solstice. And for those that think that the date is off due to not calculating leap year, you are wrong, the calender takes into account that the days are a bit off to the seasons, and since they are counting seasons more than days, adding up a bunch of days means nothing.

The only things ending on the 21st is this myth, and my youth, I will be turning 40...oh I know, to some I am already 40 and I am counting it all wrong, my youth ended a year ago to them I say, whatever, I will count it as I wish.

This one has been so debunked it's not even funny. Plus the fact the Mayans never did predict the end in the first place. This has been morphed into just a scam by con artists who just want some green. Even Mayan philosophers and descendants find these claims ridiculous.

The Mayans actually were excited for this time. This is, for them, a new age of peace, happiness, and understanding. I just feel sorry for them that people took advantage of their culture to make a profit.

Eh, whatever. We'll all be here saturday morning.

I believe that it was just misinterpreted ... I have looked up in these things and I have heard more positive than negative.

Sure when I stumbled upon the Mayan Calender and 2012 the world will end, I really freaked out at first and cried of fear, but turns out that it was just misinterpreted and then I accepted death .. however .. a part of me is still glad such prophecies didn't come true and that I get to live ... I guess there are a few things I need to finish before my life end.

All I gotta say:

15 minutes until it's the it's past the 21st. There's still a possibility I might spontaneously combust or something else equally absurd will happen to me.

Obviously. We lived. It's 12/22/12. I didn't believe in it from the very beginning

I actually thought that doomsday thing was on the 22nd... What can i say, I don't really inform myself much xD

Since today is Christmas, let's just put this incident behind and pretend that it never happens.
