I've recently found myself becoming less and less comfortable with the growing use of the term "master race" on the internet. "PC master race" is obviously the most common but I've noticed it creeping into other places lately and it genuinely bothers me (not a whole lot but enough to notice). I can't tell if I'm just being overly PC (lololol pun) about it because this is how terms get recycled from being loaded but at the same time it's Nazi terminology and most people use it basically in the same way the Nazis would've. I don't see a lot of irony in people shouting "PC master race!" as a chant of superiority over other gamers since they genuinely mean it 95% of the time. Obviously the stakes are far lower than the extermination of minorities and the disabled so I probably shouldn't give a shit but it always gives me a "that's not right" sort of feeling.

Personally, I couldn't give a rat's ass (pardon my French). My main reason for not caring, though, is that I don't take the term seriously. I don't have any actual evidence (nor have you provided any) as to whether or not it's taken seriously 95% of the time, so I'll just be arguing conjecture here and say that I don't think most people take it seriously, and will more often-than-not use it in jest or use it ironically. The rest who use it, depending on the medium of discussion, will probably get called out on their over-generalizations and will point out the probable flaws with whatever it is that they spout as being the holy grail. Of course, if there's legitimate reasons to take, for example, the PC as being superior to all consoles, then those reasons should be given instead of an insulting phrase like "PC master race", but that's assuming the people involved are intelligent and give a shit. Personally, I'm a PC guy. I never really owned many consoles, so I always used a PC. I think PCs are better, because they can do so much more than what I've seen consoles ham-handedly attempt to do, but I do understand if people are intimidated by them if they do want to just plug the damn thing in and play some games without getting into the really complicated stuff of PC operation and maintenance.
So anyway. I don't feel upset or offended when people use it as a joke or literally. If they mean it, then I either give them a simple correction or just move on with my day and let someone else deal with the idiots. I hope this reply satisfies you.

"Taking it seriously" in my OP meant that people who use that term have a genuine feeling of superiority to console gamers in the same way that any other platform loyalist does whatever their nemesis corporation is. I don't have any illusions that many people even consider the fact that "master race" is a Nazi term otherwise it probably wouldn't be as popular as it is.

The phrase bothers me occasionally, but I don't think for the same reasons. It more just makes me think of an unflinching sense of superiority with a hint of douche. The Nazism aspect I tend to forget.

It's probably one of the most obvious Nazi references out there next to "Grammar Nazi", but it's also exactly for this reason that I doubt many would take it too seriously.

I guess yes and no. No because when I see someone use it idiotically I don't pay any attention to them. When a group uses it and it becomes a movement then I do care. Not all people that have this mindset are threats, but as people have said, when others are swayed and it becomes something bigger then it's something to worry over.

I have never equated the term "master race" to the Nazi regime and i seriously doubt anybody who says anything with the context of "PC master race" wants to have or has anything to do with the Nazi regime. For most part i think the people who yell or say something like "We are PC master race" do it simply for giggles, out of spite, or to simply annoy the "console people".

If it's used jokingly no (in my experience it's almost never meant to be taken "seriously"). If it's used by an elitist douche yes, fuck them, they're making us look bad.

Human race isn't the master race in the first place. Breaking it down to color/race/nationality/creed/religion or if you like a computer or console doesn't change that fact.
Anyways the master race in gaming uses every in his library. Pc/console races are just glorified poorfags in 'web speak'.

PC gaming is the most specific use of it but I've seen people play on it and say something contextually specific (like saying "Johto master race!" in a conversation about Pokemon).
I guess after thinking about it a little more I'm more bothered by the fanboy arrogance of it than the implications of the phrase itself. That someone would ever feel so good about owning a PC and thinking they're so much better than other platforms that they would even unwittingly absorb a term like that.

The term isn't offensive because it is related to the nazis. What makes it offensive is that it is related to the racist belief that one race can be superior to another and that it is its destiny to be above the others.
It's usage on the internet does not actually relate to race. It's meant as a joke/short hand and intented to be kind of pompus/offensive. (eg. I don't see why it's a problem, especially considering how much more common it is to hear people saying jew me out and such.)

Honestly if i had the money to build a uber gaming pc i would. But im broke. So i settle for a console. Which sucks compared to pc.

Yeah well as long people keep this mindset within the realm of the so-called console wars then it's fine. I do find it annoying that people think they're better than me just because of something I do or do not own (console/gaming rig) but seeing as how most of this occurs over the Internet I take it with a grain of salt. As a friend of mine told me, nothing on the Internet should be taken seriously, and it's your loss if you do.
I personally find consoles to be better than PCs simply because of the simplicity. Call me blind or whatever but I really cannot tell the difference between PC ports and PS4 ports of games like say Hardline for example and frankly I don't care. The graphics are good enough as they are and I like the idea of separating my workstation (laptop) from my entertainment (PS3/PS4). No disrespect to PC users but there is no way I can spend big money on gaming rigs right now, doubly so since I'm going into my last year of Uni.

It really depends on the intent behind it. Usually it doesn't bother me because usually when I see someone say it they're just trying to be funny. It's when people use the term seriously that it doesn't jive with me. "Master race" goes hand-in-hand with "elitist" ideology and the idea that something is somehow inherently superior to something else, which is very rarely the case. Everyone has their own preferences. What works best for one person may not work best for another.
