Yeah Hitler's evil, but I mean comon who isn't evil these days? I mean I still think he was a great leader. I mean he easily manipulated the public and seized control of Europe. I don't really blame Hitler but more the ignorant and idiotic population that elected him. I mean we have problems such as this today. Public is stupid and easily swayed by high officials. They were a country with a fuck-ton of resources and an outrageous grudge against England, France, and the United States. Hitler's propaganda machine didn't go into full swing until after he became established as the de facto leader of Germany. He did do plenty of aggressive lettering campaigns but he took power primarily through aggressive beatings of political rivals and taking advantage of the Reichstag being burned down, among other unscrupulous things.
I also feel the need to point out just how much you're cheapening the historical significance of Hitler. Either you're lowering one of a select few humans worthy of being called "evil" to the plane of a liar in a suit or you're raising poor quality politicians to the level of genocidal maniacs and both of those are worthy of a solid smack across your face. Hating on politics might be the cool thing among 16 year-old ignoramuses but get some fucking perspective when you invoke Godwin's Law.

The statement in bold I find to be incredibly stupid. Should we judge him by his words then? Like I said, he delivered (at least in part) on a lot of things he promised and a lot things he promised were horrifying. He was evil but far too many people like to tack on extras like him being insane or the anti-christ or other shit that distances him from humanity.

The people in germany at the time probably follwed hitler because he could speak better than any body else at the time and was promising to revitalise germany.
When he started keeping his word more people followed and it was probably quite easy for them to go along with the master race bullshit since the cost of paper to print bills no longer outstripped the value of the dollars they made. Similar to what I said at the beginning of the thread. Took a shit hole and turned it into a powerful industrial country. He wasn't a complete idiot when it came to military tactics but, he wasn't a master of tactics either. If he had won in WW2 he would have been a hero to his country but, since he lost he is considered one of the faces of evil. As someone already said in this thread "The winners write the history books"

Everything he was able to achieve was because Germans are very proud nation and were looking back to "glorious" times of German Empire and Prussia, and, still were very angry for that punishment from Versailles (after WW1 ended, they were forced to pay huge repays as one of countries starting off the conflict). And, also, people in Europe always envied Jews their ability to earn money, so Jews were not quite popular back then... Hitler came and told Germans that Jews were cause of their suffering from WW1 and global crisis (even if that wasn't true).
His actions went to deaths of more than 100 million people and suffering of even more people.
It also led middle and eastern Europe to 50 years lasting era of comunism (every country freed from nazi by USSR (today Russia) fell under Stalin's direct command. Governments were just mere puppets, with a little exception of Jugoslavia and Romenia).
Furthermore, Hitler hated, except Jews, also Slavics, homosexuals, people with incurable diseases or mentally ill... and many more.
He tried to annihilate or enslave whole Czechoslovakia ( divided to Czech Republic and Slovakia since 1993) and Poland, names like Osviecim, Dachau, Terezin, Treblinka (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auschwitz_concentration_camp for example) are just enough. Poland (especially civilians) was treated by nazis in the worst possible way.
Since I am from Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia) you might be sure that Western betrayal ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_betrayal#Czechoslovakia ), which caused separating about 1/3 or our territory, as well as almost whole defense line against Third Reich (yes, we were prepared to fight those fucking nazis, BUT HELL ENGLAND AND FRANCE KICKED US) made it's part on my point of view. I don't know history of every single country you are from, but if ever in your history happened that you lost war before it even started, and had to surrender just for some "greater good" (the reason why we were ordered to surrender was "to avoid any conflict with Hitler" - it really worked you see :evil: ), you could understand why we here hate Hitler, nazis and everything they caused. It's one of the greates humiliations you could imagine.
After seeing all your comments like "he could not have been that bad", I should recommend you to visit come of those concentration camps, and you will see how "not bad" his ideas were.

Not only was Hitler evil but he was also an idiot who won't let his generals do their job. He has some military experience but he was only a corporal rank. During D-day, if Hitler just let his generals do their job then the D-day would have failed. And if he didn't attack Russia he wouldn't have to deal with splitting his forces into two. That's why there were assassination attempts, to try to save what's left of Germany.
And if you guys are still wondering if he's evil or not, here's a fact. Hitler murdered 6 million Jews. Not because they were dangerous to mankind, but because he just didn't plain like them. That's more than enough to say that he's evil.

okay first of all no person ever thinks that he/she is evil. they beliv e that thier actions are good for themselves or other people. in Hitlers case he was trying to use the jews as scapegoats for the problems that Germany was facing after WWI. I also belive that he just did not like jews because he saw them as greedy unclean pigs. just like the KKK and other racest groups. now that I have stated this I will make my answer

He wanted to be an artist and then applied for architecture. His paintings were really amateurish though. He didn't have enough real talent for him being an artist to be some kind of "if only a better person saw his application" scenario.
I really don't know why exactly he was such a hateful bastard though. I his intense nationalism was probably a lot of it but then the people he started hanging around with helped it really take off.
