Rot in the ground. Consciousness is an effect of the brain so once that organ dies there's nothing to send to an afterlife. It's kind of bleak but it's not like any other afterlife provides more than comfort since you can't prepare for it or bring anything with you regardless of what you believe (unless you're a hardcore Ancient Egyptian or some other equally stupid minor religion).
Although, some people need lies to get through their life.
Even if that is sad or whatever, it's often better to leave people their illusions.

Due to my current psychotic, crazy-ass belief that our life is a 1st-person MMORPG, and that we are just a 3D characters controlled by 4D beings (Reference:Star Ocean 3), i'd say that it's just the classic "Game Over" screen when we die.
On a more "realistic" note, i think reincarnation is what's waiting us after we die. i'd love to be reincarnated as someone else, living a completely different life than my current life. As a president of US and A, for instance.
I figure FPOD would love to be reincarnated as a cewt, wittle penguin.
We are 4 dimensional beings.

It doesn't matter what happens when you die, its what you did while you were alive that counts.
That doesn't matter either.
But like I said, leave people their illusions and whatnot...
