What If We Are Already Dead?

There's a kindof trippy movie that's sort of about that, called Waking Life. Something like... There is still electricity in the brain for like 8 mins after death, and time is extended in dreams, what if you just dreamed your whole life in the last 8 mins, and what if that's what you're doing right now. And then you're all like "WOAH."

Good movie to watch high, but I mean, it's not a thing that really matters.

Simply because you feel this topic is stupid does not change the fact that the opening poster is actually attempting to discuss something. It may not be political or social in nature, but it calls for an actual exchange of ideas on the matter.

I find it amusing that you attack his thread's 'intellectual merit', whilst not having even the slightest handle on the English language.

Also, the report was on the basis that you broke forum rules. It's as simple as that. They're there for a reason, and should be upheld. No matter your personal feelings on the 'merits' of the subjects discussed within, the Serious Discussion forum demands a kind of decorum that you clearly lack the ability to uphold. Your belligerence cancels out any and all intelligence you may possess.

You'll have to excuses my typos, I'm not very good at proof-reading. Thanks for pointing them out, I'll try to avoid making them in the future. However, you have a few mistakes of your own:

1. Belligerence does not cancel out intelligence. You may not like my tone, but it doesn't make my points any less sincere.

2. The same goes for grammar. Making a few innocent typos does not somehow magically invalidate everything I've said. If you're going to try and argue, at least make a effort.

You could have just reported the thread if you didn't feel like it belonged in SD.

1. Belligerence cancels out intelligence if the only thing you can muster is a singular statement that is entirely inflammatory and bears no weight or insight at all. It's not an argument, and it's in no way pertinent. You're just blustering and flaming with no rhyme or reason. It makes you look stupid. You couldn't think of a real response, so you decided to rant and flame instead. It gives the impression that that's all you know how to do. So yes, belligerence makes you look stupid. If you truly consider yourself an intellectual, try composing a thoughtful response that draws on your strengths instead of screaming in public like an uncivilized neanderthal.

2. I feel that your opinion of this thread as being idiotic is more or less the way it's presented. The OP is poorly written at best, contains some errors and sounds like something someone comes up with when stoned. I get it. However, judging by the discourse taking place, the intentions behind it are sincere - to discuss whether people feel it's a possibility that the subjective 'life' is happening in real-time or not. It's perfectly acceptable to reply with "I don't think so, and here's why", but you didn't do that. You instead chose to disregard the thread entirely and personally attack the poster, without any semblance of a reason at all. Which is flaming. Which is against the rules.

The fact you disagree or feel the thread is pointless is not why I reported you. The way you're behaving, is why I reported you.

Edit: You also could've done what Cruz did, and been done with it. I still feel like that would've been a disproportionate reaction considering the OP -was- looking for an actual discussion, and it -is- a subject that does not pertain to any of the other threads. Unless it were to be slightly reworded and posted in the Dreams Section. Still. That's not the course of action you took.

Aye, that's true. To be honest, I made the comment that has caused all this controversy while on pain-killers. I wasn't entirely in my right mind. Not that that's an excuse for anything. I probably would have done it anyway.

I really don't understand why this topic is even in Serious Discussion. I'm sorry, but this seems a little too much "Life is but a dream" way of thinking, except we're actually reliving our lives when we die.

On topic, I find this also to be extremely pessimistic because the logic here is basically, "We're dead! Let's relive our life!" which also can turn into an endless cycle of living the same life without knowing. I certainly do not want that, not sure about the rest of the world. I mean, what if your life has been pointless? Or tragic? Or a lie? I would not want to relive that. Consider this my two cents on this philosophy.

It's in serious discussion probably cause most of them start with a "What if"?!
other than that i still feel like we are talking about the "LOST" series and it will drag for 6 seasons... (only there he was seeing imaginary things i think)
It is pessimistic and stupid and pointless, but i think it sustains a little hope or the vanity we have that we could change our destiny will a different decisions...

I don't see why the topic title is an excuse to put this thread in Serious Discussion. Then again, you do have a point that a lot of topic titles start with "What If," no matter if the topic itself is pointless.

Anyways, I do agree with that part about purgatory if you actually remembered your life and forced to relive it exactly the same way. What I said though was that you won't remember and blindly live the same life over and over again without knowing.

As you said about changing it, what would you do if you actually changed your life when you go back to relive it? Does it just cancel out and you die? Does that life continue until the end and start over with your death? Keep in mind, this is still in a flashback of your life, not actual time travel.

Living the some life over and over again even without you knowing it still sounds like hell to me.
I never said i wanna change my life, all my decisions good or bad sums to the "me" today i may not be pleased with that "me" but let's face it we humans are the most greedy creatures on earth.

It's probably in Serious discussion because the OP wanted a serious discussion. Something that can be difficult to get in Random and nearly impossible in Incoherent Babbling. It doesn't really matter what the topic title includes as long as it stays within the rules and guidelines. Simply because the subject of a topic can't be proven in any way currently, doesn't mean that the theory can't be discussed.

Back to topic. I wouldn't see the point of constantly reliving our lives without being aware unless there's a sadist higher power out and about. Also, what about the old generations? Are they doing the same thing over and over again, slightly tweaking their actions? How does that affect time as a whole? Our ancesters reliving their lives while our great great great great great great great great grandchildren are reliving theirs. Maybe it's like what someone here said, we have to do something correctly before we move on.

What if the life your living now is sombody elses past life? Look, just try to leave this world in better shape than you found it... leave your mark so that the person that has to relive your life doesn't have to go through hell. Death is not the end of your exsistance, you just enter a new way of being.
