Don't hesitate to correct me if what I say now is wrong.
If I have understand it correctly, the research is about creating new types of bacteria changing their DNA with a specific technology that uses different algorithms, so they will be able to create eventually (as they call it) a "genetic firewall" to "prevent" illnesses.
Well, in terms of eventually and potentially getting out of control; the former topic would be a "Robots VS Humans", the later would turn into a "Biological War". Nevertheless (and unless I understood something wrong), I hope they keep going with those technologies, however, I am skeptical about they achieving "immunity" or making human beings immune to illnesses because until now, new viruses and bacterias keep appearing and making us ill.
On a side note, I am not as enthusiast about the DNA topic compared to the AI topic, since I am a game developer (or at least I am trying lol) and the AI field is something I am really interested in due to being able to create a better AI behaviours so games become better.
That is one potential ability of (I haven't delve too far into it myself, yet). Ultimately if we can recreate a embryo or sperm cell, we can make artificial humans. This is just my science fiction imagination though.
The reason I brought it up was for this "Regarding my curiosity about creating an AI with the ability to think and feel as a human is so big just because it will mean, humans were able to "replicate" their self and give life to something that actually didn't have 'life'", so I was simply curious if you knew of them.
As for viruses
I as well, a self proclaimed, aspiring game programmer/designer have great interest in AI.

Ok, tat was what I was missing. Now that it is clear, I don't see any specific problem with that. Maybe just one (which AI might has it too) and discriminating from "normal" and "created" people (both genetic and AI) and using the laters like supplies for medical reasons or whatever, honestly I don't want to overthink it too much.

Also, the video was nice.
"My sisters keeper" for medical reasons, never seen it, too depressing for me...
"Blade runner" for humanoid machines with emotions, though I wish I could have finished the book.
Just 2 movies that cover the last things you said, if your interested in watching them.
I will try and check the first one since I haven't seen it for sure, whereas the second I have already seen it and that is why I said the "discrminaion" thing. Also, I consider Blade Runner a really good movie. ^^
