Which is better, believing in a god or not?

I dismiss the concept of god just like I dismiss leprechauns, or the flying spaghetti monster. The idea is ridiculous.

Putting evidence aside; why do you believe in god? Why the Christian god? What are your reasons?

Hoonestly...I'm not burdened by anything. I don't feel the need to present a proof about God's existence since you can't explain God scientifically.

I see atheism and religion as an immovable object and an unstoppable force. Its honestly two extremes of one spectrum. If you have doubts on either sides, try going agnostic.

No, you can't explain god scientifically. Do you know why? It's because science explains things that are real. God isn't.

But please explain; if you don't believe in god because you've reached a logical conclusion based on evidence, why do you believe? Again, what are your reasons for believing? Do you have none, other than being indoctrinated by your friends and family?

The existence of God cannot be proved or disproved. The Bible says that we must accept by faith the fact that God exists: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). If God so desired, He could simply appear and prove to the whole world that He exists. But if He did that, there would be no need for faith. “Then Jesus told him, †˜Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed’” (John 20:29).

Atheism cannot explain why there is no God. How can atheists know that there is no God? Your atheism is illogical. You cannot know there is no God. To do that, you'd have to know All things to know there is no God. You'd have to have seen all evidences to know there is no God. You cannot claim this, therefore, your atheism is illogical. It is not logical for you to claim atheism. You have not seen all the facts. Therefore, the possibility of God's existence is real. Therefore, agnosticism is more logical.

The idea that you need faith only strengthens my point that religion is spread by indoctrination. What do you tell a child you're trying to convince when he asks for evidence? You tell them to rely on faith, and you tell them they'll spend an eternity in hell if they question your religion again. It's disgusting.

Regarding your rant about atheism being illogical. First of all; atheism does not explain anything, it's absence of faith. Nothing more, nothing less. OK. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. You say atheism is the absence of faith but seeing as you are defending your belief doesn't that mean you have faith in your belief. Oh and God is not "something" and I'm not doing the "same thing". As I have pointed out man cannot prove God's existence.

Let's not change the subject to Santa Clause, leprechauns etc. Do not even use those kind of analogies to God. We are talking about God, (BTW muslim God and Christian God is the same just with diff. name) someone that has the bible to support His existence. The Bible was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by over 40 different authors from all walks of life: shepherds, farmers, tent-makers, physicians, fishermen, priests, philosophers and kings. Despite these differences in occupation,time line, and the span of years it took to write it, the Bible is an extremely cohesive and unified book.

Every effect must have a cause. This universe and everything in it is an effect. There must be something that caused everything to come into existence. Ultimately, there must be something “un-caused” in order to cause everything else to come into existence. That “un-caused” cause is God.

I would have thought that the absence of God's moral code in this world is probably one of the most observable phenomena going. Science is the study of observed phenomena. Since no-one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an ongoing endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion (which BTW needs faith).

How would you explain the beginning of the universe? Big Bang? I can name flaws in the big bang scenario.

Every culture throughout history has had some form of law. Everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Murder, lying, stealing, and immorality are almost universally rejected. Where did this sense of right and wrong come, where does your sense of right and wrong come from if not from a holy God?

Atheist share only one common bond, we only care for what we can prove, and we want the correct answer. I don't take my stance on religion because it's more convent, i have had to lie to my parents and adults for nearly four years now. But i take it because i view it as the right option, If god where to come down and show himself i would believe in him in an intent. Atheism is just the lack of believe, we take nothing as a reality that we can prove without faith.

And no, the bible is extremely contradictory from book to book, have you ever actually gone through the entire thing? It's something ever christian should do.

The fact that every action has a cause is a observable truth, however observable truths have a tendency to reach a limit. If i have an object travailing at the speed of light, and i push it forward it will go no faster; since the speed of light is the fastest something can travel, even though everything i have ever pushed foreword has gone faster.

"This "Un-Caused" is god." Do you have any evidence for this? Imagine if the men before you used a similar ideaoligy; of we don't know so let's assume this. The most honest answer anyone can give themselves is i don't know; And to be honest i don't know what the cause of the universe is, the big bang theory is a solid hpothosis, but even the people who created this theory would change it if they found new evidence that contradicted their ideal's.

Evolution can be studied in the off spring of rapid reproducing animals, we can see the subtle changes from generation to generation. While we can also view the changes in fossils.

As for morals, first off most Christians don't follow the morals set out in the bible; I.E. stoning non virgin brides or not working on the Sabbath. So how can the bible provide moral direction if you must nit pick from it. (also, your on a porn site so really don't say the entire bible is through and through moral without first saying you yourself are going to hell.)

Morality is simply doing things that are right or wrong, and these things are defined by how our actions affect society; and we obey these moral laws because were under the eye of our peers. Would you be on this sight if your mom was in the room?

Atheist do not reject god because we believe in him and wish to sin, we don't believe in god because there's not enough evidence to the claim.


As a final note, i have no interest in debating with someone who's unwilling to accept the others opinion in the case of overwhelming evidence. That's the main differences between hard core Christians and atheist, atheist view and consider things and reevaluate the ideas they hold, Christians shrug it off and say god works in mysterious ways.

As a final side note, i don't hate faith in any way, your as free to believe anything you want for whatever reason, i only care if you are trying to prove your point, or pass laws/other things that affect me.

I have little interest in starting a flame war. If you can't agree to even change your viewpoint in wake of overwhelming evidence i have nothing to say to you, and don't expect a reply, and so should you superstring.

lol...I'm tired of this and I'm tired of making long posts. I have just been defending my point of view as a Christian and not pushing my view on anyone. Trust me when you believe in a religion then you are set in the after life. It makes you want to become a better person and helps you want to help others in your community or different community. I am a baptist and gotta say my life has been great even though i had some problems in which i needed help i could rely on it the most. The best known people in the world used religion to help others such as the civil rights movement and WWI(MLK and Gandhi). Atheist is fine but you don't believe in nothing in the after life and you go blank. While other religions help you personally their are others that help you mentally and spiritually. You don't have to it see with your eyes just believe in it with your heart. I promise you that your life will brighten and others around you will start to brighten up too and you will gain full benefits in which it has to offer! AS a fakku member and as a friend im telling you keep your religion and remove all doubts and you will leave this world a happy man broski.

With religion/believing in a god, there is an ideal that a person can strive for. If he truly believes in the good of the teachings, then these will drive him to become a better person. The way one interacts with others, the way one treats other human beings (and perhaps all other living things) will be guided not just by the religion, but by the community that believes the same things you do. However, the fact remains that what makes a person 'good' is also relative to what religion you are adhering to. The moralities and principles of every sect varies and in an effort to defend their own, they end up being ignorant of the others.

Without religion/adhering to atheism, one acts as one thinks. Man creates his own destiny without the interference of a playmaker. Therefore, one is responsible for his own acts. The shit storms and success are all you. If i see a problem with my life, I will fix myself, and with others help, without fail. There is an element of praise here to be said, because you take life on the way you would want to be treated. However, in being preoccupied with one's state of affairs rather than of a larger picture, there is also an element of self-centeredness that comes into play.

Perhaps you should ask yourself, which belief/non-belief would make you a better person than you are today. Go through with that decision, but always keep an open mind.

I think what is better is to continue to question and be flexible.

I consider myself agnostic. I don't really care about god.

If someone shows me that god is real, I honestly couldn't care less. When I tell people I don't believe in God, I already have other things to believe in. I like to believe in things like is art, love, freedom, etc. Otherwise, without those things, I might as well be dead. But more importantly, I believe in myself.

I think it's better to believe in god. It helps a lot people since it better to know that there's a higher being watching over them and there love one's.

1. Is he omnipotent?(I.E. maximally powerful)
2. Is he omniscient?(I.E. Maximally knowledgeable)
3. Is he omnibenevolent?(I.E. maximally good)
4. Is his nature that of a logical consistency?
5. Can God make A not A?
6. Is god's nature that of perfect morality?

Just go ahead and answer those first and I'll have a few arguments against your god cooked up.

An atheist here, and quite honestly, matters of faith have never been a real issue for me. I've just been living my life abiding to my own moral compass, because I feel that if I prioritized the morality of some magic man in the sky I cannot see, hear, taste, smell or feel over my own morality, I wouldn't really be living my own life.
Plus, I really don't buy into all that eternal reward after death stuff, since the idea of living a perfect existence in some perfect place feels more like some really sadistic form of torture to me, since I am an imperfect being that cannot really enjoy total perfection because of my flaws, and even if I ended up in heaven, I wouldn't truly be me, or heaven would not be a perfect anything, at least for me.
Aaaaaaand I think the point of my post has just officially entered incoherent babbling territory. Anyhoo, not buying any of this perfect afterlife crap either. And even less I like the idea of some defined reward, like the 72 virgins thing. I mean, why seventy two? Where did these virgins come from? I have friends who are great believer of God, and they (seem to) live their life happily. Their life seem so sure, guaranteed, but as you can see, sometimes they are close minded. Not going to watch game of thrones just because showing some boobs is too... immature and close minded.

And i do have friends who don't believe in God too. When i'm with them i feel so free, unburdened. Free to do anything with my life. Dirty talking, sharing porn, talking what if i bang this girl, etc etc. But deep inside i feel guilty. Deep inside i think that humans are not this low.

So where i stand? Between. I believe in God, but hey, i'm writing this on a porn site. A good porn site even. I commit sins but i still fear of going to hell. I can't even prove it but i just do.
So yeah, try believing in something, it doesn't hurt, but if that something limits you from seeing something that you think is good, start questioning. Either your belief or conscience on right or wrong is not suitable for you.

Well my parents I guess didn't really believe in anything, so I wasn't raised according to any religion or anything. But later on I really wanted to believe because I thought life gets a lot easier when you believe. You always have hope, you know how everything around you got there or where you'll be heading when you die.
Unfortunately I couldn't make myself believe in god regardless of how much I tried. In my opinion believing is better. But I just couldn't do it.

I do not believe in a higher-being. Because I myself am The only Higher being. I am one of the few ever human kind, that will reach immortality, My rain of terror will be forever known. I believe in only science, and what can be done with science.
