Why do you get piercing?

Heck, I've never even had my ears pierced and I'm a twenty year old female.
I just don't like the added risk of infection and maintenance... plus I never saw the point in putting jewelery in my ears. Necklaces and bracelets are enough for me.
I'd hate to get them caught on something, or forget to take them out/put them in.
Though on some people, pierced ears look quite pretty, they're not for me.
As to other bodily piercing, I see no point unless it is cultural.

I often wonder about the motivations of body modification. i've done some minor branding and scrification, but it was out of extreme bordum, and to test my pain threshold. for me tattoos are too expensive, and i see a lot of 'pro' work that looks like crap. i've gone with a few people to get various body parts pierced, and when ever i asked why they all said, "i don't know". i guess it's about attention.

Hard telling. I went through the phase in high school where I wanted to get my lip pierced. Thankfully my dad always berated me for it and pulled the old line "While you are living under my roof and are under eighteen, you are not getting your lip pierced."
By the time I was eighteen I had mostly lost interest in getting my lip pierced, so I never ended up doing it. Glad I didn't. Who the hell wants their lip pierced? It's not even remotely cool looking. I haven't the foggiest clue what was going through my mind.

Exactly. Things you wanted when you were young might become disliked over time. Glad my parents made me follow the same rules!
My dad always said they'd be a "permanent reminder of a temporary feeling". Boy was he right.

Yeah, I went through a stage where I wanted to get my tongue pierced, but my mom denied every right to it.

I could never understand people making holes on their faces or bodies and filling them with metallic objects. and I want to understand. So please... tell me the reasons
I have one piercing on my left ear. Why? I just think it looks nice and gives me more character. I do think that piercings on other parts of the body besides the ear (male or female) is gross. However, I would never judge someone based on such things.

Not all people get piercings for the hell of it. Some girls have inverted nipples and one common way of fixing that is by getting their nipples pierced. Of course they could also have a child and breast feed or just do some old fashioned foreplay. People have different preferences and as a result prefer different remedies.
