999: Nine Hours, Nine People, Nine Doors [size=11]For the DS[/h] "You're a college student who finds himself trapped on a sinking ferry with eight other passengers, forced to play a twisted game where losing means a watery grave. This is Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors for the Nintendo DS. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is an adventure game for the Nintendo DS, though some would call it a visual horror novel. It's sort of like Hotel Dusk or Time Hollow, telling a story while keeping things interactive enough to still call it a game. In this case, the story is about Junpei, a college student challenged to the 'Nonary Game' by a mysterious figure wearing a gas mask. He'll have to open the nine doors in nine hours to save nine people, himself included. Along the way he'll face more than 32 puzzles, ranging from numerology to music composition to logic puzzles. "We've decided to call 999 an 'Adventure' game," say Ben Bateman, Localization Editor, Aksys Games, "but I don't really feel that's entirely accurate. 999 is a game that simulates life, or at least it would if your life was about being trapped on a sinking ship and forced to complete a series of incomprehensible puzzles before your practically inevitable death. It is about relationships, and how they will ultimately kill you. There is also some blood, and an ax, so if you've always wanted some blood and an ax in your life, there you go. But what really brings 999 to life are the people who inhabit it. You will learn to care for them; to feel as though you are there and they are your friends, and then they will die because you made the wrong choices. Just like in real life." Aksys games is bringing Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors to North America later this year. If you've yet to try an adventure-type game on the DS, I'd highly recommend it. It's the perfect sort of game for long hours on the train, plane, or toilet. Just watch out for bottom numbness."

Nah, it's just games/VN that's like this. Galge and eroge are a different matter. :D

All the choices in VNs like this are somewhat I can call, "Neutral". Since there's no instant reaction from making that choice. SO, it's somewhat unpredictable.

The most important choices in conversations are quite obvious, actually. Have to agree on the door choices, though. Nothing tells you what you should pick there.

Lol, the only important choices is actually the "Doors selecting" one. the other choices that doesn't lead to door choosing is not important.

I already checked the ending chart. lol

Already got the 4th ending now, tonight I'll finish this. BUT, I have never chosen Door number 2, in my previous plays, So, I have to choose that in the end just to complete this game.

You need to at least get the 4th ending to get ending 1 and 2.

Some answers are important for the true ending. Would've pretty much gotten it on my second play (got safe on the first) if I hadn't made one mistake. I even noticed that I picked the wrong choice, but decided to see what'll happen and pick the correct one later. And this is how I got the axe ending instead... :D

So, I just spent 6 hours playing this game to find out that there are multiple endings(what a kick in the balls). I being the impatient person I am got pissed and and just read every single spoiler on the game and watched all the game on youtube, etc. I have to say, I totally called Zero's identity, but I did not see reasons behind it coming. What were everyone else's thought's on the wtfness of the game?

So, I just spent 6 hours playing this game to find out that there are multiple endings(what a kick in the balls). I being the impatient person I am got pissed and and just read every single spoiler on the game and watched all the game on youtube,which is a first for me. Normally I play every game I get to 100%, but there is just WAY to much text in this game. I have to say, I totally called Zero's identity, but I did not see reasons behind it coming. IMO this should really get an anime, it would be fucking awesome.

Mmmm, I don't know....Feels like it should be here as there are puzzles to solve to advance the story. VN's usually just have a "pick the dialogue choice" system.

There's alot of VN now that also has RPG elements, Simulation elements, fighting elements

the Term Visual novel is from the amount of text and the presentation of the story.
The puzzle in this is a simply an added gameplay element.

So, VNs =/= Text Only.
You cannot generalize them with the "old" description again, in this age of time where there are more VNs that include gameplay elements

and this game is also included in VNDB (VN Database) and they're quite strict about that. (There was once a VN that has RPG elements, but was excluded from the Database, because it was actually a RPG with VN elements in it.)

The "pick dialogue choice" will only be focused on getting the True ending. Others ends are purely from door choosing.

and You better get All the endings including the bad ends. Because there are some character developments in other rooms, that will lead to the bad end.

Now you just need to get the "Axe ending" and the "Safe Ending"

After getting the "Safe Ending" The True ending route and the dummy route will be open. Getting the True ending means you'll get the dummy ending too.

Have to agree with Kaimax, the VN section is definitely the correct place for this, and one thread per game should be enough. However, it might be a good idea to add the VN section thread to this section's Master List to avoid any further threads being created here.

Finally finished the game, after putting it off for ages due to various reasons, and it was pretty much what i expected, awesomness and mind fucks, just the way i like it.

Now i just need to buy a 3DS and wait for the sequel.

From what i've heard it sold way more outside of japan, so much so that it sold out multiple times.
We're not talking millions of copies here, but still impressive, especially since visual novels isn't really the most popular gaming genre around.

3DS? Really? Save yourself the trouble and get the Vita one instead. You'll at least have better games to play, in my opinion. XD

The Vita is shit, and it's close to be a disaster already from the start. It sold only 72k units during the second week of it's launch, which was during christmas, the busiest shopping week of the year.

Alot of people are already calling it DOA.

As someone mentioned on NeoGaf in response to Sony buying some 3rd party support for PSV:

- Dynasty/Samurai Warriors is on 3DS
- Monster Hunter is on 3DS
- Gundam's on 3DS
- Super Robot Wars is on 3DS
- Dragon Quest is on 3DS
- Resident Evil is on 3DS
- Ace Combat is on 3DS
- Kingdom Hearts is on 3DS
- Miku is on 3DS
- Tales is on 3DS
- KojiPro doesn't want to make handheld native games anymore
- Square Enix won't be releasing anything on Vita until 2017, if the platform hasn't already been killed off by then
- Level-5's on 3DS, and has 2 rinky dink projects on Vita

There's literally nothing to take outside of middling things like Yakuza, God Eater and Phantasy Star.

And apparently the developers of Persona (and many others) wants to start working on stuff for the 3DS too, given it's sales, and the PSV's lack of, it's not surprising.

The 3DS has the games, and i go where the games are. I don't really need a system with better graphics when it doesn't have anything fun to play.

Not gonna start a console war in here, im gonna buy a 3DS because the Vita simply doesn't have anything i want.
The only title that i find interesting is the FFX remake, but since it's comming to the Ps3 too i don't see any reason to buy it for the Vita.
