Does anyone know where or how to use the life mirror in chapter 5? I've been going around in circles pulling levers =[

Well, I did the suggested actions. They didnt work. Since I had time to kill I did a complete reinstall, without fumbling over the Japanese Unicode mistakes and the folder. And the problem went away. Thanks for the help tho. Much appreciated.

Anyone else getting this error when starting Rance or any other game? (This happens with and without the eng patch).

OK. I managed to install and apply the patch with success. Had to try several times :/

I am using Windows 7.
Is there a way to run this game without being in JPN unicode? I tried applocale and it didn't work. Might have something to do with the dir path. I don't want to change the unicode and restart PC just to play the game. Maybe I should install VM WinXP.

I did, with and without patch (if we're talking about the eng one, I couldn't download the other one http://download.alicesoft.com/alice2010_updater_ver101.zip, not even right click and save since I couldn't extract the zip file).


I allowed followed advice from another thread who also had the jab error. The advice was running the installer and rance in japanese unicode instead of using applocale (which I was using). Turns out that using just applocale would not install all of the game (The アリス２０１０ folder would only be under 1 gb, while in jap unicode, it would be ~3.6 gb). I still couldn't actually run the game as I got an error like some other person did .
The only way I get to the above screen is to let the movie/cutscene play all the way out. I try pressing z,x, enter, left & right click but nothing happens, if I press "esc" this error occurs.
I then proceeded to revert back to applocale, but I get the same errors as above.

I don't think I'm installing the patch wrong either. I've extracted the eng patch file and I copy and paste the patch.bat, "patch" folder, and the 2 .txt files into C:\AliceSoft\アリス２０１０\ランス０２. and run patch.bat and let it full run its course.

^ I had the same problem but it turns out I had the patch files in the incorrect folder. Are you sure you have the files in the correct directory?

I am so sorry, that wasn't the reason I had that problem.
The reason was my antivirus was deleting a file inside the patch folder, however a warning never came up @ @.
So turn your AV off
extract the files into the folder
run the bat file and let it finish
turn AV back on
try again

Alright, after fiddling around with a bunch of files, I've seemed to solve the problem. So hopefully this helps anyone that's still experiencing the problem I was.
Basically, installing the game would result in some extra files installed (with file names in moonspeak, see pic) even though I'm in japanese unicode mode (not applocale).



Although the screencap shows these weird files are in the アリス２０１０ folder (Alice 2010), these files were also found in the ランス０２ folder (Rance 2). What I needed to do was delete my ランス０２ folder and copy the ランス０２ directly from the cd image file and place it where I deleted it. The original ランス０２ folder can be found in E:\GAMEDATA\ランス０２ depending on what you name your virtual drive. Then, just apply the patch as directed.
If you want to double check, the files that your ランス０２ folder (before the patch) should have looks like this

Hi can someone check the megaupload links to see if the files are the right one. Because I download the files 5 times each and it can't seems to find the part2 when I tried to extract part1 with winrar. First I put the 4 files into a new folder so it won't be effect by other files and tries to extract it but it won't work and none of the files is corrupt too the first 3 files have the same size and the last one is the only one that is different.
