I beat the story a few days ago and I like all of different elements they put into the story. riding around on horseback shooting stinger missiles isn't realistic, but at least it was fun and a different experience than
move forward --> kill enemies --> move forward
They do what they can to make sure the story doesn't get stale and I found it a fun experience.
I'll give Treyarch some credit for trying something new with the Strikeforce missions. My problem with them is that they're shit. The AI is retarded and damn near forces you do to everything yourself, which is a goddam nightmare on veteran. Honesly, if I wanted to play a strategy game, I'd go back to XCOM. At least that game was actually fun when it was kicking my ass. And since the Strikeforce missions actually have an effect on the story, it kinda feels like I have to force my way through that shit.
Ultimately, you don't have to actually do the Strikeforce missions if you don't want to.
Granted, I had only a few problems with the AI, (most of which had no idea where the fuck to go, or realize that they don't have to go the freaking long way), but they do what most anyone expects them to do when you don't control them personally.
Only real gripe I have about the Strikeforce missions is that all of them seem to have steep varying levels of difficutly. Some of them are actually quite easy to do, while the others, like the first SF Mission, seem to be ridiculously hard.
Storywise, I'm glad they actually decided to mix things up for once. Granted, yeah, some things are beyond belief, (though it's a GAME, what did you expect?), but still good overall, and replay actually has value now.
On Multiplayer, holy crap...just as insane as it was on Black Ops, but taken to a different level. So far, the only weapons I'm using are the MTAR, MP7, and R870 MCS. Now, the R870 MCS, in both campaign and multiplayer, has a fairly long effective killing range for a shotgun, probably the longest in its class, but if you add the Long Barrel attatchment to it, you can pretty much dispatch poor saps at mid-range. Only gripe about it, which isn't surprising, is that it's pump action, but that's not really a problem once you drop the guy.
IMHO, Black Ops II didn't disappoint at all. Could've tweaked a few things, like maybe making the horse stop when firing a Stinger missle, or maybe being told to dismount before doing so, but I don't see that as big of a problem compared to the lag compensation on MP. My gripe about playing online is that, to me, you're being forced to play at someone elses pace instead of your own, but lately, that doesn't seem to be the case.
