Game description on the menu says increased bullet damage and limited HUD (Ammo counter remains). I won't go into numerical BS in terms of health since that in and of itself is unrealistic. I'm just saying that CoD really isn't the inventor of Hardcore, nor did they do it the best. And, one bullet from any gun can kill in any mode of FlashPoint. Getting hit in the leg reduces running speed or simply makes you fall. Shot in the arm makes accuracy nil. Getting hit anywhere causes bleeding, which will result in a bleedout if not treated with field dressing. Only unrealistic thing in the game is the syringe that medics have access to for revives from a bleedout. (Fatal gunshot wounds cannot be revived)
FlashPoint 1 and ArmA (1/2) both had 'Hardcore' as a selectable difficulty in their expansions, both of which launched before Modern Warfare.
EDIT: And I've played Hardcore on CoD, and I can say I've never seen anyone check the map. The maps are so small that you don't need to unless you wanna see someone shooting to see their marker (don't know if they're shown, I've never checked my map). Map usage is actually required on Dragon Rising because in campaign/mp you are always operating on the same one square mile map, only objective locations are changed. Plus, S&D just puts you out for that round, does the same in regular rules. Hardcore Dragon Rising puts you out for the entirety of the match in any game mode.
Like I said before, CoD has all those features. And don't just accept what the game descriptions says cuz it's wrong. Yes IW has some bad programming like the ingame gun charts, but that's why the CoD community notice these things. And yes there is map usage, A LOT of good PC players use it. Also like I said, there are huge fucking maps, not just the ones IW made. Also there's a difference in doing HC for certain gametypes. In professional gaming standards, SnD is the better gametype so that's what is more focused on for HC. I mean for and fps series in this sort of category. You can set up people to die and be kept out of the game for the rest of the match for any of the gametypes in CoD, except that it never caught on and most of those gametype servers are just empty or closed now.
And fine yeah, Diablo 2 was the first to make HC mode.
